“Make time for this entirely clocks-based room! This room had pretty much every time-related puzzle you could think of, and each one was presented in very different and clever ways. Watch out if you don’t like math or reading time, but for me, I completely clicked-clocked with these puzzles. Biggest issue was there are a lot of locks, and it isn’t always clear what goes where. It’s also gonna be tough for smaller groups, but it’s very doable, especially if you gel with math puzzles. If you like how that sounds, give an hour hand and clock in!”

“Have you ever wanted to be on a game show? This is probably the best best thing! Lots of references to classic game shows, great set design, and plenty of puzzles to keep a large group busy. The gamemaster is in the room with you to act as the game show host, but unlike some live actor experiences that make things awkward, this was a welcome addition to the room. Shout out to Brandon being an amazing host and nerding out about escape rooms afterward!”

“Cute theme. Limited space so wouldn’t recommend for larger groups. We played with only 2, and were allowed a few extra minutes to complete…a third set of eyes/hands would have come in handy. This room has lots of padlocks which is a bit tedious because you have to find the -right- lock to match 4 digit code or whatever. But a very entertaining story and the hints were fairly creative. Great game master, too 😊”

“Escape Factor continued to impress us, as this was a neat theme with a great storyline! Some puzzles at the beginning were a bit tricky, but we got better as we progressed throughout the room. There were parts that definitely surprised us! As always, the staff was overwhelmingly positive and friendly, and our visiting friend had a great time too!”

“Our 1st VR experience ever! And it was a fun one! I’m not even a huge Star Trekkie, but I enjoyed the virtual tour and shooting game! Unfortunately, the experience was less than stellar for my partner, who experienced sound issues and actual technical glitches that broke the game. However, big thumbs up to the manager and staff for recognizing what happened and not only fixing it, but also giving us a free return experience for any of the VR games! Thank you Sandbox! Overall a fun albeit flawed 1st foray, but we do want to go back and try more!”

“This is basically what I think about when I think about VR games! Medieval fantasy hack and slash with magic, goblins, and dragons! It felt like an interactive Baldur’s Gate/Dungeons & Dragons or Final Fantasy, and we are all in for it! My sound wasn’t working perfectly, and the screen kept getting blurry, so it wasn’t the best experience. There are multiple pathways and choice points, so it is replayable for those who want to go again. Big thanks to the staff for giving us a free game after we had horrible technical difficulties in our previous experience!”

“The puppet theater theming blew my mind. I like how integrated movies, movie scores, and the puppet stars themselves were to the room. It was just a fun place to be and entertaining to witness in person!”

“One of the best escape rooms we've played - super cool and unique design/theme, and the puzzles were clever and very interesting. Game master / owner was one of the nicest people we've ever met in the industry and clearly has a ton of passion for escape rooms - would absolutely recommend as one of the best rooms in the Chicagoland area”

While it may lack some of the upscale excitement of downtown, West Chicago is full of life, culture, and a number of attractions that are enticing to people of every stripe. If you find yourself visiting during the summer months, then Turtle Splash Water Park might be perfect for you and the family. Or if retro fun is more your vibe, then the Cascade Drive-In Theater is a must visit. This part of Chicago also happens to be home to some of the most original escape rooms in the whole midwest, and should certainly not be overlook. Whatever your interest, West Chicago is without a doubt worth a visit. You may one day look back and realize that some of your favorite memories took place here.
Chicago is the capital of the midwest when it comes to amazing escape room experiences. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Chicago in 2016, the great city on Lake Michigan hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, greater Chicago is home to nearly 30 different escape room venues and West Chicago has grown to rival its downtown neighbor as one of the very best areas for escape rooms in all of the midwest. Mafia Heist at Mind Trap Escape Rooms is a challenging game that is great for a slightly older player. The Game Master at CluedIn Escape Rooms is a fun game with some fresh ideas that can be enjoyed by all ages. Escape The Room Chicago’s The Theater is a tech-forward room that is perfect for larger groups who have played a few rooms before. With over 100 escape games in the area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
