Nice room. I’d definitely recommend. Pretty unique puzzles and the story and set fit together well. My main complaint would be that a lot of the locks are the same type so when you solve a puzzle it’s not necessarily obvious which lock that corresponds to. Also Jay was a very friendly game master. She was on top of giving us nudges.

Bonus Fun Time Game Show Challenge

Every time I come home to Chicago, I drag my family to an escape room. Finally my family was excited because they love games that you can find on the game show network as well as trivia. Your game master is in the room with you during the entire game. There are some dexterity puzzles (my dad excelled at these) but nothing too difficult. We each had a chance to shine individually as well as work in teams.

This escape room has an adorable set. Although we didn’t use any clues, if we did need one, the clue giving system was cute and nostalgic. There were a variety of different puzzles and it was easy to split up and conquer them all. A few puzzles I have never seen done before. That always adds to the wow factor. I would recommend this room to anyone!

Rating: 4/5 - A spooky good time with fun puzzles Pros: ➕Set fit the theme well with lots of textures and details ➕Multiple areas to explore, good use of space despite the small overall size ➕Lots of tech triggers with minimal use of combo locks ➕Puzzles were fun and satisfying, lots of physical/tactile interactions ➕Good use of audio/voice over ➕Some cool reveals ➕GM was friendly Room for improvement: ➖Much of the room is dark, only 2 lanterns are provided so you may need to use your own flashlight if you have more than 2 players. ➖Wish the room was longer, we finished with 22 min left as a team of 3 enthusiasts. I'd recommend 2-3 players since it's a smaller room. There are no jump scares or blood/gore, just a slightly spooky atmosphere.

Star Trek: Discovery [VR]

Our 1st VR experience ever! And it was a fun one! I’m not even a huge Star Trekkie, but I enjoyed the virtual tour and shooting game! Unfortunately, the experience was less than stellar for my partner, who experienced sound issues and actual technical glitches that broke the game. However, big thumbs up to the manager and staff for recognizing what happened and not only fixing it, but also giving us a free return experience for any of the VR games! Thank you Sandbox! Overall a fun albeit flawed 1st foray, but we do want to go back and try more!

Squid Game Virtuals [VR]

A fun approximation of what Squid Game might look like translated to a small VR square room space! There were lots of nods to the original games such as Red Light, Green Light and the pink staircase room. Even the music is there! The games taken from the original are not 1:1. For instance, the iconic Red Light, Green Light game is not a race but instead a collection challenge. There are also brand new games which I thought fit with the spirit of kids’ games and shape-based physical challenges. Expect to get sweaty! It’s also a great competitive-based challenge to do with friends. One game in particular depends on how you use obtained secret knowledge. Will you sabotage others or work together? There is a winner for each team and an overall leaderboard to measure and compare scores! May be somewhat insulting to the message to the original show but I think it at least lives up to the more recent and still enjoyable reality show version!

Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire [VR]

This is basically what I think about when I think about VR games! Medieval fantasy hack and slash with magic, goblins, and dragons! It felt like an interactive Baldur’s Gate/Dungeons & Dragons or Final Fantasy, and we are all in for it! My sound wasn’t working perfectly, and the screen kept getting blurry, so it wasn’t the best experience. There are multiple pathways and choice points, so it is replayable for those who want to go again. Big thanks to the staff for giving us a free game after we had horrible technical difficulties in our previous experience!

Very good beginner room with some hard puzzles. The flow of the room was linear and easy for a starting room. The look was great but the owner let us know there are some upgrades on the way for the set design aspect.

Just Escape Room

1st time playing a room with only 2 people and 1st time at Just Escape Room. We had a blast and our good communication allowed us to get out with time to spare. Set design and quality was good (nothing spectacular) and the game story and flow was solid. Game started linear, then non, and back to linear by the end, so it had good flow. Puzzles were fair and fun to do, with lots of tech throughout. This room had a little of everything and was just fun to work through. GM (Margarito) was a really nice guy and fun to talk with before/after. He gave us 3-4 timely nudges and was clearly actively watching our game throughout and was genuinely excited when we escaped, mentioning specific times of our game he thought we did well. Customer Service seems very important at Just Escape Room, as a good GM can make or break your experience. We will be going back to try their other rooms!

Another room self built by the owner, and wow it was a huge success. Puzzled flowed nicely and the contrast between and start of the room and the end of the room was very well expressed. Just Escape room delivered with this new room.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
