As a contestant on this vintage game show set, you’ve made it to the final round and have just minutes to win the grand prize!

“What a fun room! This company understands how to make good puzzles that fit thematically and make sense. Yes, we were solving puzzles, but it also felt like we were playing games as you would on a game show during that process. The live actor didn’t play a huge role, but they fit into the environment well. I really liked the beginning and felt that it was a great segue into the game. Afterwards, the game master was telling us about which changes they made to the game based on comments from players. It’s always refreshing to hear that companies take action based on feedback, and it 100% made the game better. This was probably my favorite room at this company by far (although their other rooms are great too). It’s not a difficult room and totally doable with 2 enthusiasts. It’s a little expensive but I would say it’s worth the price to play.”

The neighborhood punk has stolen your valuables. Trusted sources have informed you that there is a one-hour window where you can break into his hideaway and retrieve your goods. Can you brave the heights, unlock the secrets, and recover your possessions in time? Watch out for his trusty dog, Fido!

“Best treehouse themed room I’ve played so far. Small set details really made it stand out. The puzzles were fun and made sense in the context. It’s essentially only a single room experience but they are able to pack a lot into the space and even had a cool puzzle trope that I have seen before, but for new players would be mind blowing the first time. The only thing I wish it had was a ladder to climb into the treehouse or something of that nature, but it’s not possible due to safety and space limitations. Totally doable with 2 enthusiasts but like all of their rooms, it’s a little on the expensive side unless you have more people.”

You’ve been summoned to the lab of the Official Interplanetary Timekeeper. An evil group has been bending time for their own benefit, placing your colleague in extreme peril. Using your unique blend of skills and teamwork, you and your guests must work together to free the Timekeeper. Can you complete your quest in time?

“Nice room. I’d definitely recommend. Pretty unique puzzles and the story and set fit together well. My main complaint would be that a lot of the locks are the same type so when you solve a puzzle it’s not necessarily obvious which lock that corresponds to. Also Jay was a very friendly game master. She was on top of giving us nudges.”

Can you uncover the secrets and save the graveyard from its own demise?

“Rating: 4/5 - A spooky good time with fun puzzles Pros: ➕Set fit the theme well with lots of textures and details ➕Multiple areas to explore, good use of space despite the small overall size ➕Lots of tech triggers with minimal use of combo locks ➕Puzzles were fun and satisfying, lots of physical/tactile interactions ➕Good use of audio/voice over ➕Some cool reveals ➕GM was friendly Room for improvement: ➖Much of the room is dark, only 2 lanterns are provided so you may need to use your own flashlight if you have more than 2 players. ➖Wish the room was longer, we finished with 22 min left as a team of 3 enthusiasts. I'd recommend 2-3 players since it's a smaller room. There are no jump scares or blood/gore, just a slightly spooky atmosphere. Update: My ranking of the rooms here starting with my favorite: 1. Bonus Fun Time Gameshow 2. Ghost in the Graveyard 3. Tree House Raid 4. The Timekeeper's Trapped”

A strange doll shop has appeared overnight at the edge of town. No grand opening, no announcement, and no one remembers seeing it built. The windows are dusty, the shelves are full of hand-crafted dolls, and each one looks disturbingly lifelike. You and your team step inside to investigate, but the deeper you go, the more unsettling the truth becomes. The dolls seem to watch you. Whispers echo through the halls. Something is very wrong. You discover the shop’s owner is a grieving father performing a dark ritual to bring back his son. The missing children from the neighborhood are part of his twisted plan. You have one hour to uncover the secrets, stop the ritual, and escape before you join the collection.

“3rd visit to Just Escape Room and The Haunted Doll Shop was a fun room. We were going to play as a pair, which would have been more appropriate for this smaller room, but having 4 also worked fine. Good variety of puzzles in the room, and I really appreciated the dry erase board in the room, as that was utilized for several puzzles to keep track of sequences. Also, I appreciated the puzzle where we got to use a bungee cord, because who doesn’t like to play with bungee cords. Set was solid and made you feel like you were in a spooky Doll Shop. Lighting was a little dark but appropriate for the theme and manageable. I only wish the game had 1 more room with more puzzles as it was fun, but we got through it relatively quickly. Jordan (owner/builder) was our GM, so we finally got to meet him. Jordan was great to speak with after about our favorite ERs and games we have played in the area. Jordan also told us about his upcoming room, Cabin Murder, which will be opening later this summer, and it sounds really fun. You can tell that Jordan puts a lot of thought and love into his games, so I cannot wait for Cabin Murder. Defintiely check out Just Escape if you are in the area. Ranking at Just Escape 1)Floor 66 2)Haunted Doll Shop 3)The Attic”

After a quiet hike nearby lands you as the primary suspects in a high-stakes murder investigation, the police give you one chance to prove your innocence. A remote cabin serves as the crime scene, and the murder weapon is still hidden somewhere inside. However, a rookie officer accidentally triggered a trap, and a sixty minute countdown has begun to destroy all evidence within the structure. The cabin was once a workshop for the A.R.K. a techs, a group of eccentric masterminds who turn homes into elaborate mechanical nightmares. Fearing the complex traps and quirky gadgets, the police refuse to enter the crime scene themselves. You must navigate their twisted puzzles and recover the weapon before the clock hits zero and the proof vanishes forever. If you succeed, you walk free. If you fail, the evidence is lost and you will be the only ones left to take the fall for the crime.

“Big fan of what this company and its owner are doing with escape rooms! Great set and fun puzzles. There are a few puzzles that we wouldn’t have gotten without a nudge, but the owner is very open to feedback, especially as this was a brand new room when we played. Bonus for playing it early is that we made the leaderboard with many minutes to spare! Don’t worry if you get scared easily. Despite a name that includes the words cabin and murder, this room isn’t spooky at all. Unless one of your teammates gets cabin fever!”

In the year 2107, an urgent mission arises. A scientist's high-rise condo is in danger due to an accidentally triggered self-destruct feature. With the scientist out of town, the Hour Men are hired to avert the impending explosion. Your team must access Floor 66, unravel the intricate security measures, and deactivate the device before time runs out. Success lies in your hands, but failure could lead to a catastrophic event. The Hour Men Company is a classified organization that recruits ordinary individuals for time-traveling missions, all for the benefit of a mysterious scientist. These missions are crucial for the scientist's objectives, requiring participants to navigate different eras, complete complex Missions, and sometimes alter the course of history.

“We played all three of their rooms in row and one thing that really impressed me was that across the games, there was VERY little game/puzzle style repetition. Each one had their own personality, with individual solving. Floor 66 is a bit more sophisticated of a game compared to one of the other games we played, The Attic. Some very fun "futuristic" touches without losing the familiar "city apartment" set piece. Note: Just Escape found a brilliant workaround to regulations forbidding a smoke machine. Absolute *chef's kiss* of a solution.”

Activate offers high-tech games that test your team’s physical and mental agility across a wide variety of real-life challenges. Once inside, you and your team choose from hundreds of combinations of games and difficulty levels, each lasting one to three minutes. Your electronic wristband tracks your score and progress throughout your experience making Activate perfect for a casual night out or intense competition.

“More of a physical challenge activities facility than an escape room, Activate is often a great time! The company has multiple facilities around the U.S. and Canada, and the location in Chicago has more games than the other one I went to in Lexington, Kentucky. It has active arcade games like a portal challenge, where you throw balls into holes and they pop out of another hole, and a game where you have a control panel similar to a video game adventure. Most of the other games are great too and range from being in an interactive platformer video game to throwing basketballs to solve trivia. We end up sweating from all the running around and crawling! There are about 15-20 rooms, so there are a lot of choices. The only thing that was tough is if it’s busy, you may have to use up more of your limited 75-minute time slot waiting for people. And if they’re too loud, you can’t hear some of the audio-based challenges. So it really depends on the day. I still recommend it for groups, and I would definitely say it’s a great spot for parties and big hangouts!”

It's the game show that started it all. The Original is a wild ride through rounds of trivia, chance, prop challenges and speed tests! Teams must spin, draw, build, wager, and guess their way to victory. Great for the whole family!

“I loooove game shows! This special experience from The Escape Game lets you be a contestant in a game show, complete with a live host and a set with professional lightning, music, and video! You can go with as few as 2 and as many as 14 people split into 2 teams. There are physical and mental challenges, and a 1-hour game can have as many as 10 minigames. It’s lots of fun for big groups. You may have to play with or against strangers, but that’s how real game shows are anyway. So glad to have something so great near me!”

Learn More About West Chicago Park Escape Rooms

Chicago is the capital of the midwest when it comes to amazing escape room experiences. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Chicago in 2016, the great city on Lake Michigan hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, greater Chicago is home to nearly 30 different escape room venues and West Chicago has grown to rival its downtown neighbor as one of the very best areas for escape rooms in all of the midwest. Mafia Heist at Mind Trap Escape Rooms is a challenging game that is great for a slightly older player. The Game Master at CluedIn Escape Rooms is a fun game with some fresh ideas that can be enjoyed by all ages. Escape The Room Chicago’s The Theater is a tech-forward room that is perfect for larger groups who have played a few rooms before. With over 100 escape games in the area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
