NevermoreNocturne AdventuresEscape roomIRLI played Nevermore in October and am just getting around to leaving a review—on the day TERPECA results came out and Nevermore made the list!! 🙌 Nicole and Tom are so deserving of the honor. Nevermore transported me to Poe’s world, I loved every second of it. The artistry is stunning and the puzzles flowed nicely and made sense in the setting/story. Nicole and Tom’s experience in the haunt world really comes through in the best possible way (impressive since this isn’t a “horror” room). And, they’re amazing hosts to boot. Worth the trip to play. Can’t wait for whatever they come up with next!
Earl's Body ShopAxxiom Escape Rooms - WilmingtonEscape roomIRLDefinitely one of Axxiom’s better rooms. We enjoyed the theme and set designs, and a couple of fun surprises. There are a few puzzle quirks that disrupted the flow a bit for us but the GMs seem aware of this and chimed in with nudges to make sure we escaped.

More of a mystery-solving experience than a typical escape room (we were encouraged to take our time to enjoy the experience rather than rush through it). Ronan was a fantastic host—energetic and enthusiastic. We are excited to try their other room on our next trip to Edinburgh. Highly recommend!

If you, like me, grew up frequently enduring the inherent creepiness of a certain animatronic mouse and his friends with an equally disturbing slice of pizza, you will love this room. Most unique theme I’ve seen in a while and wonderfully executed. Not scary—perfectly unsettling. Highly recommend!

A lot of horror rooms struggle with balancing scares and puzzles, but Cross Roads strikes the perfect balance here while keeping the progression clear. Easily one of my top 10; wish I could experience it again for the first time. We had a group of 4, I wouldn’t do more than that.

Unfortunately, our GM was not prepared for us, left doors open which prematurely exposed surprise elements, and chatted with a coworker which took from the immersion. On a better day, I think this room would be fantastic. Great sets, unique puzzles and use of space, excellent creepiness factor.

It’s not that the puzzles are difficult, but that they are time-consuming for all the wrong reasons. I can appreciate that King’s Eye wanted to craft a “real world” experience but this game misses the mark.
The MenagerieTrapped! Escape Room - UplandEscape roomIRLWe were really excited to play this room after all the positive hype it received at Level. Since I didn’t play it at Level, I’m not sure how much of the original game remains intact, but this game, while neat in theory, was a bit disjointed and confusing at times. However, it did include some novel concepts and there is a solid creepiness factor.
Amnesia - CLOSEDQuest Room - Culver CityEscape roomIRLAmnesia is yet another unique and immersive horror/comedy adventure by Quest Room and was a blast to play! We accidentally skipped a puzzle which resulted in a kink in the narrative, so my one criticism would be that the flow should be tighter so that game play cannot move forward unless this puzzle is completed. However, all was cleared up in the end and we appreciated the one-of-a-kind story. Highly recommend!
Haunted Evidence [prev. Resurrection]Redondo Beach [prev. Quest Room]Escape roomIRLResurrection is so much fun! Extremely immersive and very unique elements. True to Quest Room form, “puzzles” are more like practical actions that need to be taken as part of the narrative rather than inconsequential pattern/code breaking. Our group enjoyed every minute of this horror/comedy - highly recommend!
Operation NightwalkerMindTrap Escape Room - MurrietaEscape roomIRLOperation Nightwalker is a solid horror game and is on par with the excellent quality of other Labyrinth-designed games. Great balance of scares and puzzles and the atmosphere kept me looking over my shoulder the entire time. Highly recommend for horror lovers!
Heretics [prev. Bloody Elbow] - CLOSEDQuest Room - KoreatownEscape roomIRLAnother solid narrative-driven game by Quest Room. Excellent sets and atmosphere, great storyline and objectives, and unexpected elements and scares along the way. We played a slightly altered version due to COVID and missed out on some really neat-looking aspects of the original game, but that didn’t stop us from having a great experience. Hopefully, they’ve reinstated those elements by now.
