Storyteller's Secret
Boxaroo
Escape room
IRL
Storyteller's Secret is quite possibly my favorite escape room to date. I kept having to remind myself that I should be rushing because I was so captivated by the world they've created that I wanted to just take everything in. Boxaroo knows how to really utilize tech to further the immersion and story (and not just use it to look fancy), and the usage of space was very creative. The hint system was as unique as the puzzles were, and gave the room strong adaptability based on player needs or desires for the game. I don't want to say more for risk of spoilers, but I think every puzzler who's looking for artistic immersion and storytelling should play this room. I felt like I was right inside a magical realism book, and wish I could have never left 📖

Amazing room! Unique theme, stellar puzzle design, and great immersion. The room was very hands-on, there were multisensory experiences, and the puzzles really made you feel like you were in a mechanic shop. Some amazing tech I've never seen before as well. My only complaint is that we were told we'd be watched by two GMs the whole time, but the one time I asked for a hint I didn't receive one until the 4th time I asked. There were also times where I asked questions unrelated to the puzzles (e.g. "how are we doing on time?") and was given a hint for the puzzle instead. Luckily those hints were things I'd already figured out or I would have been disappointed by the unwanted spoilers. It certainly didn't feel like we were indeed being watched the whole time. That being said, the staff were very kind and clearly very passionate about creating good games for enthusiasts, and they gave us an exciting teaser about the next game they have in the works! Excited to return soon!

This room felt like we were actually magic 🪄 Puzzles were perfectly on-theme and use of tech really supported the feeling of being in a magical space. We couldn't stop praising the many stellar (and sometimes subtle) design choices on the drive back. Puzzle quality was also astounding, puzzles were varied in style and difficulty, creating a game where everyone could play to their strengths. We have nothing but praise for this room, and are excited to try the other rooms at this location!
Boda Borg Boston Quests
Boda Borg - Boston
Escape room
Other
I've been to Boda Borg multiple times and it absolutely never gets old. Boda Borg is every room escapist's dream, it's like escape rooms 2.0 What I think is coolest about Boda Borg is its ability to convey a strong story without actually providing players with any verbal or written narrative beforehand. I also appreciate that Boda Borg incorporates movement-based challenges into many of their rooms, while also using a door color system to notify people of which rooms will be movement-focused (yay for accessibility!) My only complaint about Boda Borg is that they claim to be a space for people of all sizes, when I have brought larger friends with me and they've really struggled to fit in certain spots in many rooms. I'm not saying Boda Borg should change its room designs, but I would love if they could note, similarly to which rooms require movement, which rooms require fitting into small spaces.
Train Robbery
Cyber Raccoon Escape Room

Wonderful room, clearly constructed with a lot of care! Good flow, high-tech, strong storyline, and diverse puzzle types (+ hilarious intro video). We did this room as a group of two and finished with 3 minutes to spare. Hope to see more rooms from Cyber Racoon in the future!

Such a unique room! Our first live actor in a room, and we were impressed at their ability to play multiple roles so well. The selection between levels of vulgarity for the actor was an awesome touch! Comparatively to other rooms, it was a bit tough to tell which props were relevant to the game, but again the actor did a great job helping to differentiate. Great experience!

The Escape Game - Dedham

Wonderful room! Fun and unique theme, wide variety of puzzles, tech that worked really well, and a GM (Emily) who was very respectful of our request surrounding hints. We played as a team of two, and I would say that's the ideal number of players for this room. Another great experience at The Escape Game!

This room is exemplary of everything escape rooms should be. A cluemaster who's passionate about escape rooms and respects your preferences about hints, tech that beautifully functions to serve the immersion and magic of the room theme, a diverse range of puzzle types, I could go on and on. One of my favorite rooms so far! We had an absolute blast and will definitely be coming back to Boxaroo. The one down side: The walls were pretty thin, and we could sometimes hear the cluemaster answering phone calls. This took away from the immersion a bit and also made it harder to concentrate in moments. Accessibility: At least one member of the group needs to be able to crawl and step up a step. Parking: We parked by the Boston Public Gardens and walked a little under 15min.

Great room setting and structure! Some puzzles were really fun and on-theme, and other puzzles felt a little out of place for the environment, but overall we thought it was a great room and had a really lovely time. Escaped in 65min 40sec as a team of two (thanks to the GM for the bonus time!)

The GM told us that this room used to be bigger than it is, and they had to downsize to expand their lobby. However, the room makes great use of very little space. Though it says 2-4 players, I wouldn't recommend playing with four as A. it would feel crowded and B. it's not really a divide and conquer room. We played with three (and made it on the leader board!) GM was very kind, super understanding about us being a tad late, and did a wonderful job with our request to only hint to tell us that we indeed had the right code and should try the lock again. Also, free stickers and pins! Great experience. My primary critique is that the audio at the beginning was pretty quiet/fuzzy, and we almost missed what the room objective was even though we were trying to listen closely. Escape RI might want to invest in new speakers.
