Your friend Connor, an aspiring novelist has been working on a book about serial killers. He thinks he has scored his big break when he finds a lead on the Zodiac Killer. Obtaining information on a serial killer that was never caught was an oppotunity too great to pass up. So he headed off to the small midwestern town to speak with this informant, Zed Holman, the owner of a junkyard. This was six months ago and you have not heard from Connor since. The police are not able to file a missing person's report, so you decide to go see for yourself. When you finally arrive in town, night is falling and a storm is on the horizon. You approach the junkard looking for answers as to the fate of your friend...

This was my favorite room at this location. The puzzles felt fresh, and each solution was satisfying to complete. I highly recommend this room, but I wouldn’t suggest playing with more than four people, as a smaller group allows everyone to stay involved.

We loved Wrecked! Note: masterpiece escapes is moving in a couple months (summer 2026), we played at their original location. Puzzles were awesome, super diegetic and really solid physical solves. Several puzzles we’ve seen versions of before, but done really real well here. Lightly spooky but not too scary!

What a game Arguably the best game on our tour which included Keepers, Doors, Nocturne and Lock, Clock and Peril. All wonderful places and games (and people) just if I had to pick a top two favorite games of the 15 we did, it’s Wrecked and Nevermore The story telling, immersion, puzzle diversity and surprises - I thought the room was over and then there was the last room - wow! That last room was just incredible Do yourself a favor and spend a day at Masterpiece and make sure you play this room (and Ghastly, Cereal and Coral) Tidbits: Amazing staff, Rebecca was phenomenal Easy parking but the location has a license plate location so be prepared for a crowded lot during normal business hours)

Another game master on our trip described this game as “surprising”, and that really does describe this game well. On paper, it’s a pretty standard escape room following the common killer theme, but everything about the way this killer story is told (and of course the actual puzzles) is different from any other game I’ve played. This game is really strong in set and especially audio design. The 1st half already has an uncommon junkyard setting, but there’s also an additional layer to that setting that I’ve never seen before in an Escape Room, at least in the way this game did it. The 2nd half then takes you to a different part of the junkyard (through a door I really wasn’t expecting, which barely ever happens to me after playing a lot of Escape Rooms), and this place feels really different from where you would normally go at this point in a killer Escape Room. And both the ominous setting in the 1st half and the (mostly) suspenseful setting in the 2nd half are enhanced by the stellar audio design. There was one singular space of the game where I don’t think I’ve ever felt more compelled by just the background music loop. There is a lot of interesting lore about this game as well but most of it is not conveyed well, if at all, in the game itself. Instead the gamemaster has to explain it afterwards, which leads to it not having the impact it’s really trying to have. If you’re really interested in one aspect of the room’s description (don’t want to spoil which one) it may land better for you. Overall while there is story progression through the set, this game really isn’t story-based. And then there’s the amazing gameplay. We talked with an owner here and he said something that really stuck with me. If someone’s played a lot of Escape Rooms, the majority of puzzles are going to feel like just puzzles to them, because ultimately most Escape Rooms take basic puzzle ideas from each other. After playing a lot of rooms I remember most puzzles for the theme of the puzzle, rather than the actual puzzle itself. You can put the same puzzle in 100 different scenarios, but it’s still the same puzzle and the puzzle itself won’t be as memorable the 2nd time you do it. But here, I distinctly remember at least 50% of the puzzle content for the puzzle content. So many of the puzzles here either do something that I’ve never seen anywhere else, or more likely add something to a common puzzle type that really makes figuring it out feel special. This especially goes for the finale, which already has a neat theme, but most of the puzzles do something completely unseen before to embrace that theme. (Also this game has some of the best signposting I've seen in a game, this whole company does actually.) This game is really surprising in everything it does. The atmosphere, something that was already pretty rare in concept, never does anything in a “normal” way. The lore, while not really well-shown by the room, is still really thought-provoking and something they did not need to add but did anyway. And many of the puzzles stayed in my mind purely for gameplay, something extremely rare. Every Escape Room fan (this game’s pretty hard by the way, I would not recommend this for very new players) in Charlotte should play this. If you’re more into theatrical games (this includes me) it’s probably not going to work as well for you as the other big companies in the area or even Bagman here, but you’ll still greatly enjoy it. If you straight-up don’t like theatrical games and prefer more classic escape rooms, this might end up being your favorite in the area, or even one of your favorites ever. Masterpiece Ranking 1. Bagman 2. Wrecked 3. Coral Kingdom 4. Deadwood Saloon 5. Metro Mayhem 6. Missing 7. Breakfast All Day

One of the things this game does to make its puzzles standout is heavily layering them. There are some quadruple-layered puzzles here, and they’re very complicated. Don’t let that scare you away if you’ve already played a few games, they’re well signposted.

Wrecked is both a very strong puzzle game and a powerful theatrical experience in its own right. From the unusual setting, to the transitions, to the highly original storyline, it was such an incredible game. There was a lot to do, and it wasn’t exactly easy - some of my favorite challenges innovated on escape room gameplay while also connecting with the theme in unusual ways. The final section in particular was one of my favorite segments of gameplay in an escape room due to its structure and design. The set and story were great in their own right - the junkyard set was highly unusual and made for some stunning transitions. The effects genuinely shocked me in some ways and made solving puzzles tense - especially towards the end. To top it all off, the game boasted a refreshing take on a horror storyline that subverted expectations - it’s easy to miss (we did) so make sure to ask about it! These games were a tight fit for us but Masterpiece was incredibly accommodating for us, and I’m so glad - this was absolutely a must play.

Gameplay

Genuinely challenging, with a plethora of puzzles to work through across practically every style.

Atmosphere

The set balanced being busy while also being an accessible place to puzzle - everywhere you looked there was incredible amounts of detail.

Customer service

Rebecca was our host and she was very attentive - plus we enjoyed the post game explanation by Joseph!

Excellent room and truly a Masterpiece! From start to finish, the interesting sets and cinematic transitions amazed. The room also manages to do something with sin that I’ve always wanted to see implemented well in a room, and this delivers it masterfully. The puzzles are excellent throughout and fit the environment well. There’s an elaborate story that the GM had to explain to us, and my only wish is that it were more clearly reflected organically through the game itself. Because the story was that good! Get Wrecked!

9.2/10 No pun intended, but Wrecked was a masterpiece. The unique setting of the room and story were great, but what really stood out for us was the puzzle design and flow. The puzzles were unique and fit each part of the story so well. The complexity of the puzzles in the room added to the experience and was a highlight for us. There was one puzzle in particular that had so many different parts to it before we ended up getting the code we needed. This is a puzzler’s dream and we absolutely loved it. The incoming storm element was also done very well and really added to the immersion. We wouldn’t say this room was scary, but it was definitely spooky and this storm really added to that spooky feeling. We got to speak with one of the owners, Joseph, throughout our time playing 2 of their rooms and he was beyond great! He opened up early to be able to accommodate us and we couldn’t be more grateful. Masterpiece is in greats hands and we cannot wait to return to see what they have up their sleeves.
