“I loved this room! It was worth traveling to Houston to play. They made this room extra special for me and I’m so grateful to everyone at Strange Bird Immersive. I had just finished chemotherapy and treated myself to playing this room. They were kind enough to do a tarot reading for all three of us in my party and they gave us a non alcoholic spritz while we got our readings. The big box puzzle really stumped us but the answer was right in front of our faces. My friends were really worried they wouldn’t be able to solve the puzzles but it is doable for intermediate escapees. One of the keys was out before we unlocked it so they had to come in and put it away because we got ahead of the game but that still didn’t detract from our experience. I got a little teary at the end because the storyline is a little love transcending death and since I’m dealing with cancer, death has weighed heavily on my mind. I loved the way they set up the hint system. It’s a nod to the time period. There is so much attention to detail. The thank you tarot cards has a link on it and if you follow it, you’re in for more surprises. Great job on a game well made! Highly recommend hitting Traveler’s Table nearby for dinner after you play.”

“The first 2/3 of the game are fantastic. The set design is fantastic, having the team separated and working together to get out is a blast, and the puzzles are clever, unique, and on theme. Prison Break is also really immersive. It doesn't feel like an escape room... until the last room. The end no longer feels like a Prison Break and the immersion falls away. It largely becomes a situation of "solve these random puzzles for... some reason". That being said, the first 2/3 of the room still definitely make it a room worth doing, especially with a team of 4-7 people.”

“This was such an incredibly fun experience! It was my very first escape game in Texas, and what a theme to start with! The decor was absolutely stunning—top-notch, incredibly detailed, and immersive. The surprises kept coming, and we felt like kids again, solving puzzles that were so cleverly designed and refreshingly original. The game featured an amazing mix of locks, mechanisms, and creative elements that kept us fully engaged. The immersion was total—every detail was thought through to enhance the experience. The game masters were fantastic—so kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in ensuring we had a great time. The theme was not only ingenious but also highly technological, adding another layer of excitement to the game. It was a tough challenge, but it was perfectly balanced. We managed to escape as a duo, and the difficulty made the victory all the sweeter. Goldrush is a must-try for anyone who loves puzzles and a brilliant escape experience!”

“One of the best games at The Escape Game in my opinion. Only The Depths has surpassed it. (Still haven’t done Prison Break or The Heist though). Great story, great immersion, a few well-layered puzzles, a few red herrings, and a few thinkers, made for a pretty decent variety. Loved the mission videos, especially towards the end. There were a few missing/faded/broken/not well lit props that made things a little harder, if they get fixed, refreshed or aff. Jacob in the reception area was so nice to us and talked with us about all of the games we’ve played, and he was so kind in helping us change reservation times. And most importantly, Casey, by far the BEST Game Master I’ve ever had. She’s the kindest possible person, she goes along with comedy bits, gets into the story, and knows exactly when to give nudges and when to let us struggles. Truly a perfect GM. I adore her. Overall experience 9/10.”

“We absolutely loved this room. It’s thoughtfully designed and well maintained. The storyline was fun to play through and our GM was awesome! While The Escape Game is a franchise, we have found endearing nuances between locations and absolutely love playing their immersive games.”

“Another outstanding room from The Escape Game! The theme was immersive, and even permeated into the puzzles themselves. Great mix of mostly high-tech puzzles and a few mechanical ones. Would definitely recommend!”

“This may be one of my favorite from The Escape Game, right behind Playground! Mostly mechanical puzzles, with a handful of high tech elements. The puzzles were almost all multi-phased. This room required team work throughout the entire game!”

Houston is a sprawling metropolis, full of intermingling cultures, diverse cuisine, and a broad variety of exciting attractions. If you plan to visit Downtown Houston with the family, then a double decker bus tour will provide lasting memories for all. Of course, if you aren’t visiting with the family, then The Church of Beer might be more to your taste. And if historical attractions are more to your liking, then a biking tour of Historical Downtown could be for you. It also happens to be that there may be no better place in Texas for experiencing some incredible and creative escape rooms. Houston has somehow become a great hidden gem on the US’s southern border, and is surely worth a visit sometime soon.
Houston has become a hotbed of escape room experiences over the past few years. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Houston, America’s fourth most populous city has embraced these immersive experiences. In fact, greater Houston is home to nearly 30 different escape room venues and Downtown Houston is home to the city’s most exciting and original games. The Man From Beyond at Strange Bird Immersive was named the TERPECA #11 top room 2021. A Wizard’s Tale at Escape Again Rooms is a 90-minute, high tech game that can be enjoyed by all ages. Escape Hunt’s Houston, We’ve Had a Problem is a challenging game that can be great for slightly more experienced players. With nearly 100 escape games in the area, the possibilities are basically endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
