“WOW! Absolutely stunning experience! We have done over 200 escapes and now see why this one was rated #1 in the US. It was so full of emotion, has unique puzzles and the immersion and acting is top. I enjoyed every moment from start to finish and left with a such surreal feeling. This room is an experience AND an escape room! We were honestly blown away by it. 100% earned and deserving of the #1 spot. Thank you!”

Can you and your teammates escape from the prison because you have been wrongly accused of a crime and your cell that once belonged to a person who was murdered?

“The first 2/3 of the game are fantastic. The set design is fantastic, having the team separated and working together to get out is a blast, and the puzzles are clever, unique, and on theme. Prison Break is also really immersive. It doesn't feel like an escape room... until the last room. The end no longer feels like a Prison Break and the immersion falls away. It largely becomes a situation of "solve these random puzzles for... some reason". That being said, the first 2/3 of the room still definitely make it a room worth doing, especially with a team of 4-7 people.”

IT STARTED AS A ROUTINE OPERATION You and your fellow field agents were sent to investigate the area’s local market. It’s late, it’s quiet… but something’s not quite right. Just as you are about to wrap up your inspection, you encounter a twist you never expected. Should you have seen this coming?

“I just loved the area you step into! Reminded me of places like Morocco! The design was immersive. Lighting was well done. The progression of the game was a surprise in itself in more ways than one. Most of the game was non-linear; you can be solving 2 puzzles at once. The puzzles were a mix of mechanical and tech (which made sense) - based on observation and logic. A team of 4 is well suited for this game (doable with 3 experienced players as well). The overall difficulty is not bad. It would be fun for both new and experienced players.”

Activate offers high-tech games that test your team’s physical and mental agility across a wide variety of real-life challenges. Once inside, you and your team choose from hundreds of combinations of games and difficulty levels, each lasting one to three minutes. Your electronic wristband tracks your score and progress throughout your experience making Activate perfect for a casual night out or intense competition.

“As others have mentioned, this isn’t an escape room, but it’s still a very fun experience. It’s set up as a hallway with different rooms, each with a game you can play. Each game has different variations and unlockable levels, so it stays fun even as you keep coming back. Everyone is given wristbands that they scan before entering a game. You and your group will be able to play the games privately together, but the overall experience isn’t private. There will be other groups in the main hallway with you, and on busy nights you might spend more time waiting in line to play games than actually playing them. To get the most value for your money, I’d suggest coming when it’s less busy, or just learn to love the less popular games that are available.”

There is urban legend about a notorious train robber The Rattlesnake who murdered the sheriff and ran off with the town's money. Your team will travel back in time to the Slocum School House to discover what happened to the sheriff and solve who this mystery bandit was.

“Simply amazing. We have done over 100 escape rooms and Outlaw is my new favorite. We were in town for a banana ball game and just stopped in before our trip home - and was the best decision. It was fantastic - and not your typical western theme. Great story, solid puzzles, smooth transitions, and top tier props. We laughed and wow’d almost the full game. Took us 41 minutes of solid curiosity and “oh that’s clever!” moments. Game maker made it fun if we needed a nudge. I wish we had more time to do the next rooms, so we will absolutely be back.”

My Grandfather William T Johnson built this cabin with his bare hands on the edge of the mining town many years ago. I have so many fond memories of my Grandpa and his Cabin. But my favorite is this old story of an idol treasure he swore he found in his days at the mine. The problem is, he never told anyone where it was. Now my father, William Johnson the 2nd, always told me that he was just a crazy old man and the idol was a hoax. But I never stopped believing that the idol was indeed real. That’s where you come in. Your team is going to help me find the idol before this storm comes through and washes this old cabin a way for good!

“Was worth the hike! Great non-spooky cabin room! Whoever this William has, he has a bunch of clever puzzles with clever inputs and tactile scenery and fun props. Lots of different locks, but each way to open was different, with some higher tech than others. Not too hard for our smaller group of 2. Where there’s a Will, there’s a way out!”

Learn More About Houston Escape Rooms

Houston has become a hotbed of escape room experiences over the past few years. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Houston, America’s fourth most populous city has embraced these immersive experiences. In fact, greater Houston is home to nearly 30 different escape room venues and Downtown Houston is home to the city’s most exciting and original games. The Man From Beyond at Strange Bird Immersive was named the TERPECA #11 top room 2021. A Wizard’s Tale at Escape Again Rooms is a 90-minute, high tech game that can be enjoyed by all ages. Escape Hunt’s Houston, We’ve Had a Problem is a challenging game that can be great for slightly more experienced players. With nearly 100 escape games in the area, the possibilities are basically endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
