“This was my first ever escape room and Angela (owner) ran this room and she was amazing. Friendly and funny and really welcomed us. Totally enjoyed my first game, great theme to the room felt transported back in time. Ended up playing all 4 of their games. New room (Area 51 and half) on the way and can’t wait for it to open !!”

“Having seen the reviews, we were apprehensive about this one. As a team of 3, we had an extra 15 minutes because there's a lot to do. But the theming was fantastic, the host was so lovely and great nicely flowing puzzles.”

“Genuinely love all of the rooms at The Escaporium so had high expectations of this one and it didn’t fail to deliver. Quirky theming with some really great ideas. Being a team of 2, it felt like we were in a real race against the clock at some points as the clues and puzzles keep on coming but we did manage to escape with a few minutes to spare. Highly recommended.”

“Absolutely loved this one. Flowed beautifully with many linear aspects which meant you weren’t left stumped for long or with no ideas. Loved the set design and there was a wide range of puzzles/locks to appeal to most escape enthusiasts! Can’t wait to go back and complete some more at Compendium!”

“What a superb room! Absolutely loved every minute of this collection game which had so much to do and huge enough to cope with larger teams although we still coped as a two. The reviews are so good for a reason and this one needs to be on your to do list if you haven’t got it yet.”

“I’ve always had a soft spot for a good pirate room, and this is a good pirate room! This is the oldest room at this venue but I found it hard to tell. The overall puzzle design may feel a little dated (nothing here will probably surprise you but old ideas still have the power to surprise) but they flow well and will test your overall puzzling skills. The theming and scenery is first rate and all puzzles are on theme.”

“Came especially from Glasgow to do the Viking Room due to all the great reviews it had in my Escape Room Enthusiasts Group and as we were so impressed, we managed to squeeze in this room too. This is a 90 min room which I love as an hour goes by too quickly! A multi room with non linear puzzles. Fantastic theming, great puzzles and impressive technology. We all enjoyed this room too”

“This has gone up there as one of my favorite rooms. The initial story and the booming acoustics made it feel like we were in a Disney World ride. There were lots of great reveals and surprises throughout the entire game. It's a 75-minute game but I feel like most teams with at least 50 games under their belt will do it within 60 minutes, but I guess the extra time ensures that all teams get to see the entire game and all its wow factors. Will be back to do the other two we didn't have time to try.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
