The price of avocados, amirite? Caught while stealing an enchanted avocado, you are now locked in the dungeon deep beneath the high citadel of luramajama. Your execution is scheduled an hour from now—can you escape your cell and still retrieve the avocado before justice is served?

“This isn’t the most high tech room, but it makes impressive use of a small space, especially the vertical space. There are a lot of mechanical things going on in the room, at times it almost feels like being inside some sort of puzzle box or Rube Goldberg machine. It’s not scary though…more of a prison break + medieval theme mash-up. We had a group of 3 players (2 of whom are seasoned enthusiasts), and I’d recommend 3 or 4. It might be possible to do the room with 2 players, but you’d have to make some compromises in gameplay because it’s has a complex split start. There are a ton of puzzles to tackle, so we kept busy right up until the end, escaping with less than a minute left. I love a good dexterity puzzle, and there is one that is especially memorable. It requires multiple people, is super low-tech, and isn’t quite like anything I’ve seen. 🤌🏻 Come to think of it, much of the room has an enjoyable tactile quality to it. What the room lacks in narrative, it more than makes up for in pure fun. A must-play if you’re up in the Twin Cities.”

Ever since the former curator disappeared, his beloved doll exhibit has been terrorized by a ghost. Museum patrons are understandably turned off by this, and it's bad for business. Can you brave the haunting and bring an end to the madness?

“One of the best rooms I’ve played, probably the best in Minnesota. There are a LOT of jump scares and that’s one of the best parts, the story is easy to follow and really good! I recommend this room to everyone I know visiting the area. Staff is also AMAZING!!”

“Absolutely LOVED this escape room! Definitely one of my all time favorites!! The puzzles flow well from one to another and the mechanisms were all very novel and unique! No spoilers, but one part blew our minds!!! Look forward to it!! 😍 Not scary! Very immersive! Experience starts before the door haha. In terms of difficulty, we went in as a group of 2 and finished pretty fast, I’m estimating somewhere around 1hr? They didn’t have a clock lol. All the GMs were very enthusiastic and friendly! The entire lodge has the vibes of being among hobbyists sharing similar interests! The Lazarus Lodge is also a bar and cafe, opens at 4PM I believe! There are also puzzles you can do at the lodge! The puzzles are slightly on the medium harder side, so younger kids might not be able to fully enjoy the rooms! No scary elements though some props are slightly creepy 🤣 None in the Founders Secret specifically though. Just outside. Overall I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this escape room!! You won’t regret it! 🥰❤️”

Can you and your teammates escape from the prison because you have been wrongly accused of a crime and your cell that once belonged to a person who was murdered?

“I loved this room a lot more than I expected to! The teamwork especially at the beginning was so strong. Atmosphere was extremely immersive. And the room had so many fun surprises in it. I wish the puzzle design had been a bit more creative--too many number/letter locks which is always a pet peeve of mine. And while I truly did love this room and had tons of fun in it, prison themed escape rooms just give me the ick to a certain degree.”

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
