“All the rooms here are great but I believe this room and Pirate's were our favorites at Escape Room Herndon (ERH). I usually don't love Magician themed rooms but this room was really fun. Like almost all of ERH's puzzle, the puzzles in this room really clicked for us. Well themed and fun puzzles that fit the theme.”

“8-Bit Escape is my favorite 80's-themed escape room. It has all of the things you want it to have. The set feels authentic, the sounds were nostalgic and there were several fun and unexpected moments.”

“It's really tough to pick a favorite room at ERH because all of the rooms here are great. The theme, story and puzzles for this room were unique for us which was cool. There were several puzzles that I had never seen before that stumped me but our GM Ame'lie was great and gave us great nudges. It was fun chatting with all the GMs and owner Omer was great as well. EHR even treated me with a birthday cupcake. ERH is a must do location if in the DC area.”

“Wow. This room blew us away from its immersion. The puzzles were very well crafted and several were quite innovative. There were a few very well timed special effects that really added to the wow factor. The company says it’s a 6/10 for difficulty but it felt right on par with some of their other 8/10 difficulty rooms. That being said, we were able to smoothly escape with just a team of two. As an added bonus, there are a few “bonus” puzzles to complete if time allows at the end. These puzzles were certainly afterthoughts (and incredibly difficult), but rightfully so. They added a fun last challenge that topped off a wonderful experience.”

“I love this room for so many reasons. There are certain rooms that you do that are just so great that you look back and want to do them again. These rooms are timeless and still hold up (and cabbage compete with new escape rooms). In addition, sometimes you get a friend to do the first escape room, and it gets them hooked. Wizard's Apothecary offered both. A very beautiful room with complex yet intuitive puzzles. The themes of magic potions provided lots of wonderful moments. Put this game on your wishlist. It's amazing.”

Arcade Challenge [prev. Retro Replay]

“TLDR: fun room with decent puzzles and a great atmosphere. I was a bit worried when I saw this was a smaller room, but wanted to try it since Raven Chase has yet to put out a bad room, it actually turned out to be very fun with plenty of clues. (For a group of 4, all with escape room experience) Gameplay: the gameplay was very fun. While none of the clues heavily stood out, they were all still fun to solve. The four of us didn’t get caught up too much, and we had about 10 minutes to spare so there was enough to do in the small room and was happy with how dense it was. Other reviews have mentioned this but I will also agree with there being one clue that was very vague on how you were supposed to figure it out. It was an awesome idea, but definitely a small nudge somewhere to help would have been nice. Atmosphere: raven Chase has always thrived in this category. All there rooms (for the most part) make you feel like you’re in whatever theme it’s supposed to be and this is no different. You step in it feels like an arcade you went to as a kid at a bowling alley or movie theater. From the retro carpeting, to all the arcade cabinets, to the music playing in the background, it was definitely a cool room to be in. Also, a big plus that all of the clues revolves around the retro theme, with a very cool ending that we were all talking about afterwards.”

“Been wanting to do this one for a long time and it lived up to expectations. Very creative puzzles, and good use of tech, especially in how the game shared clues to solving the mystery in the storyline. Props and tech were top notch and room had some really creative puzzles. Will say the ending could be hard for a group less than 4 but still doable. Our family really enjoyed this one!”

It was challenging at some points and having 3 people navigating the room helped. Overall great them, fun room, loved the game okay and we escaped!! Would recommend!”

“Easily in the top 10 of the 100+ rooms we’ve played! The room was an excellently put together, comprehensive, and immersive experience with a fun combination of logical and mechanical puzzles. Puzzles were tied into the theme and the story of the room in a way that significantly improved the experience. Everything lended itself to a strong game flow in a non-linear way allowing for multiple players to contribute at the same time. Each individual puzzle was compelling and engaging without being obtuse in its solutions. It was clear the creators put a significant of passion and original creative thought into the design from top to bottom. We will definitely be trying their other rooms!”

“This room was super fun, one of the harder rooms but we (2 of us) were able to get out with 1 minute remaining. The room isn’t linear, you have multiple ways you can go in this room, but it all makes sense. There were a few things that we were like what was that for?, but overall very good puzzles, a good mixture of locks and tech puzzles, and keys. If you have more than two people and have done escape rooms before this room will be a great addition to your list of rooms completed. I will be back here for sure for their pirate room!”

“My husband and I's favorite thing to do while traveling is to do at least one escape room in that location. And this location is amazing! We did the heist room, which was fun and challenging. We wish we had time to try Special Ops. The customer service is amazing; all the employees are so kind and personable. Definitely would recommend making this stop while in DC.”

“Definitely the best game at this location. This showed off the kind of thinking that makes the escape game great. New takes on classic puzzles and being willing to have fun. One multi-step puzzle of a very large scale was particularly fun. Great job to the game masters and the escape game in general for this excellent game.”

“I (middle-aged dude) did this with my 14 y/o son and one of his friends (14 y/o). We were able to escape with time to spare and we had a great experience!! It was challenging but workable throughout. The puzzles were interesting and novel, yet intuitive. Flow was clear, linearly connected, and aligned with the story arc for nearly the entire game play. As puzzles were unlocked/discovered, they mostly came with scrolls that gave just the right amount of nudge on what to do next. It contained some cool special effects and an impressive breadth of content (felt bad for the staff as we left…dozens of things to clean up, reassemble, and reset). Everything was clean, legible, and in proper working order. GM was chill and informative. Don’t waste our time with nonsense, but gave us the rules and some critical info for this specific room (how to open a non-standard lock we encountered, a specific caution about “things on/off walls”). Kind, courteous, and enthusiastic. Great experience!”
