You’re an apprentice for Carter the Great, the best magician this town has ever seen. Unfortunately for him, he’s been sharing the theater with his biggest rival, The Great Danton. Danton said he will be unveiling his newest trick at tomorrow's performance. If his trick truly is amazing, it’ll surely put your show out of business. You must sneak into the theater at night and figure out the source of Danton’s new power otherwise Carter will surely be finished!

“All the rooms here are great but I believe this room and Pirate's were our favorites at Escape Room Herndon (ERH). I usually don't love Magician themed rooms but this room was really fun. Like almost all of ERH's puzzle, the puzzles in this room really clicked for us. Well themed and fun puzzles that fit the theme.”

“8-Bit Escape is my favorite 80's-themed escape room. It has all of the things you want it to have. The set feels authentic, the sounds were nostalgic and there were several fun and unexpected moments.”

Tucked away in the dense, verdant wilderness, there lies a cabin unlike any other. It's a place of wonder and magic, where ancient myths and legends come to shop for trinkets. In a world of strange and mysterious creatures, this cabin holds a special allure, a promise of adventure and discovery.

“It's really tough to pick a favorite room at ERH because all of the rooms here are great. The theme, story and puzzles for this room were unique for us which was cool. There were several puzzles that I had never seen before that stumped me but our GM Ame'lie was great and gave us great nudges. It was fun chatting with all the GMs and owner Omer was great as well. EHR even treated me with a birthday cupcake. ERH is a must do location if in the DC area.”

The pirate captain Ravensbeard has been cheating you and the crew out of your rightful share of plunder! Now that hornswoggling scoundrel has barricaded himself in his quarters. You and your mates must break in to reclaim what be rightfully yours and send that scurvy dog to Davey Jones' Locker. If you're crafty enough, perhaps you'll even commandeer the whole galleon. All hands on deck!

“Wow. This room blew us away from its immersion. The puzzles were very well crafted and several were quite innovative. There were a few very well timed special effects that really added to the wow factor. The company says it’s a 6/10 for difficulty but it felt right on par with some of their other 8/10 difficulty rooms. That being said, we were able to smoothly escape with just a team of two. As an added bonus, there are a few “bonus” puzzles to complete if time allows at the end. These puzzles were certainly afterthoughts (and incredibly difficult), but rightfully so. They added a fun last challenge that topped off a wonderful experience.”

A MILLION WAYS IN, ONE WAY OUT The year is 1955. You’ve been wrongfully accused of a crime, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Your new “home” is a cell that once belonged to an inmate who disappeared without a trace…or did he? Some claim he escaped. Others swear he was murdered by the infamously cruel warden. But no one actually knows… can you escape before you suffer the same fate?

“Super fun room- my husband and I ended up doing with with six other strangers. Most of the rooms we do are private but it was actually a really fun experience and the GM almost was like a 9th player. Very cooperative and helped communication between people who didn't know each other. Clever puzzles but you do need more than two people. As someone who usually only does rooms as a duo- I'll say that it would be almost impossible to complete the first try as a duo. Definitely worth checking out though and we'll be trying to do another room at this location while we are in town!”

“This was an incredible room, combining some of the best theming and gameplay we have seen anywhere. It has some very unique puzzles, that forced some creative thinking to solve but was not so hard you ever got frustrated. It also had a very unique plot twist that was expertly executed. Highly recommend this game.”

“Great experience- super thematic and lots of different type of puzzles. We did it as two people and it was a little difficult, but totally doable. As someone whose done over 30 escape rooms, I'd definitely recommend this company and their games. Very high production level and great support. We will be trying to complete all of the rooms before we leave DC.”

Obliterate a galaxy-eating black hole You're aboard a spaceship hurtling toward a massive black hole that’s devouring everything in its path. Alarms blare. Warning lights flash. Our galaxy is on the brink of destruction! Your only shot to save the solar system? Transform your spaceship into a bomb. You’ll have to intentionally sabotage your own systems, override every safety protocol, and weaponize the onboard antimatter to blow that black hole to smithereens!

“This game represented the most technologically advanced of TEG’s that I’ve played, and was also the most story heavy. The world was believable and extremely enjoyable to be in. That said, this game is prone to glitching, which should be resolved as soon as possible for the sake of future players and staff at the venue.”

Are you brave enough to put the bad guys away for good? After years of working undercover, the FBI has finally infiltrated the local outlaw gang, tracking them to their hidden clubhouse. But your mission isn’t over yet. You’ve been left alone to gather critical evidence to bring this dangerous gang down for good, before they return and realize you’re on their tail. This is your one shot to expose the full extent of their criminal empire. The gang is notorious for its involvement in everything from arms trafficking to organized crime, and their ruthless leader has been linked to a string of violent incidents across the region. The FBI has been keeping a close eye on them for years, but this is your chance to get the concrete evidence needed to take them down. Your adventure begins at a gritty biker bar, the gateway to their secret hideout. Surrounded by guns, beer, and the distinct scent of danger, you must search for hidden clues—cryptic messages, illegal weapons, and key documents—scattered throughout the gang’s territory. Every second counts as you delve deeper into their world of crime. But be careful: one wrong move, and you could blow your cover. The gang may be gone for now, but their return could spell disaster. Time to find the evidence… before they find you.

“Ok. This is the escape room I have done in quite some time. The Architect is a cool addition and he personalized the rooms (we did two) with puns from my last name. The soundtrack for the room was great, it went with the have and enhanced the atmosphere. The clues flowed decently even though we did need some hints. There were only two of us and this is a longer than normal game. The Architect was nice enough to give us an extra 5 minutes to finish the room. I’m looking forward to their next game.”

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
