Help Not WantedThink Solve EscapeEscape roomIRLVery cute and fun! I love think solve escape and always have a good time. I think the second to last puzzle could use an assessment from staff as it wasn't working properly and it may have been user error but we tried it out a bunch before making assumptions.
Beware the YetiEscape Zone Long IslandEscape roomIRLWasn’t the worst room I’ve been to, and we did have fun. However, some of the puzzles required outside knowledge/guessing, and some were faulty, while others weren’t on or required full inspection of each and every piece. I would have let it go if the GM had any sympathy or was apologetic but they just shrugged it off and called it a “fault of the room, we hope you do xyz instead, oh well”.
La Cathédrale Oubliée [The Forgotten Cathedral]Escaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLHOLY HELL. Believe the hype, do the room even if you’re not into horror. It brought out the bravery in our team but also left us all with nightmares. I truly felt sucked into a horror movie. The crew did such an AMAZING job, from the acting to the set and design. I can’t sing enough praise. Definitely the best room I’ve ever done and I typically shut down in rooms that are even slightly too dark for my liking.
L'Île perdue de la Reine Vaudou [The Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen]Escaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLWOW. completely knocked it out of the park, I truly felt like I walked into a pirate action movie. Our boat truly weathered the storm, our timbers were shivered. I was spooked, but also satisfied. Very linear puzzling but still all players felt involved. Would 10000% do again, and I wish I could experience it for the first time over and over again
Armoire à Vendre [Wardrobe for Sale]Escaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLVery magical and filled with whimsy. It is a bit juvenile but in a fun way. I felt like I walked into a storybook or a PBS kids program. The puzzles were very fun and on theme. The first half I felt like I was running around a playground while the second half felt more escape room like but I did love every second of it. That middle transport was SO magical and indescribable, love love LOVED it.
Rain Corp. - CLOSEDEscaparium - LavalEscape roomIRLHUGE set, very interactive and immersive. I won’t say I didn’t like the room, but compared to the other rooms I experienced on this trip, it did land at the bottom of the list (someone had to come in last). It’s fun and does feel very much like a movie set but some elements felt clunky and fell flat. We LOVE loomo, and did experience some heartbreak within the room, but it was very satisfying to complete.
L'Examen Final [The Final Exam]Sauve Qui Peut - Saint-JeanEscape roomIRLGame was really fun, physically demanding, and unique. Some climbing, back and forth crawling required, good use of communication skills needed, and patience. Some of the puzzles were plain as day simple while others were pretty complicated and multi step, some required search and gather skills. My one issue is we were able to escape without fully completing the room, and needed the GM to tell us to go back and complete a task. To be fair it was us missing a storyline component but still felt off.
Vortex Futur [Vortex Future]Sauve Qui Peut - Saint-JeanEscape roomIRLGreat room, multiple puzzles to be worked on simultaneously - our group mixed and matched partners when we were stuck/completed a puzzle. Flowed nicely, with varying difficulty in the puzzles. It was very satisfying to finish.
La Forêt de Falderon [Falderon Forest]Sauve Qui Peut - Saint-JeanEscape roomIRLVery unique experience - this game was hilarious and magical all at once. Each of the roles were individualized but also able to be played in tandem with the other roles. Very unique. Our GM did warn us that the AI is intended to make you take up the whole hour and adjust the difficulty based on your progress, but I really couldn’t tell the game was modified at all. The hint system is hysterical and poked fun at shortcomings in a way that made you feel like you were racing the clock nonetheless. I wouldn’t recommend for a first timer because it sets a false precedent, but still a fantastic experience.
Le Bar Clandestin [The Clandestine Bar]Sauve Qui Peut - Saint-JeanEscape roomIRLThe room has a section with mature themes but that honestly was the only noteworthy part of it. Lots of leaps in logic were needed and it all felt like guessing. If there was more direction within the elements, or within the bar I would have felt more satisfied. There is a whole red herring puzzle that is never able to be completed and it left our whole group frustrated. Once you get through the 18+ segment, the final puzzle felt like its difficulty was on a whole other level and ripped the novelty away from us. I will definitely talk about the 18+ segment of this room for a long time to come but I will warn anyone that it’s not intuitive or for beginners at all.
The Countdown: Covert OpsAxxiom Escape Rooms - NewarkEscape roomIRLIt was a very fun room, and really mentally challenging, it was very fun and each part was rather unexpected but still fit together. I do believe a group of 4+ would have a really great time with this room and able to pace it appropriately. However, it is pretty much impossible with only two people and I felt a little discouraged because we were not told that. We did however get a MILLION hints at the beginning (before we felt we needed them) and then towards the end when we were struggling we got NONE and we could hear the GM resetting the part of the room that we couldn’t access anymore. After running out of time the GM expressed that they were VERY impressed we made it as far as we did, since no other group of two had made it past a checkpoint that we surpassed with 6 minutes left. My only other complaint is that some of the effects are SO LOUD that you can’t move on for almost a full minute but add nothing to the puzzles or gameplay, they add to theming and immersion but they could have been a bit more succinct. I waited to write a review because I couldn’t tell if I was bitter about not escaping or if it really was a damper on the experience.
The Treehouse - CLOSEDEscapopolisEscape roomIRLVery cool clubhouse/treehouse theme. I felt like I could have hung out with the kids it belonged to when I was a kid, the puzzles flowed very nicely and we could tell what needed to come next/what we were looking for the whole time. Overall a great experience
Saving Santa's Workshop - CLOSEDEscapopolisEscape roomIRLCute, fun, and festive room. Great for the holiday season, it was a nice challenge but also not overly complicated
What Happened In Vegas?EscapopolisEscape roomIRLVery novel but also didn’t flow very well for us. To be fair, the setting is a trashed hotel room, but there was so much going on and it was very non-linear puzzling that it was hard to kept track and communicate what had already been done. We had broken time records for the other two rooms we did today but almost didn’t escape this one (although that was our own fault). There’s a lot to get hung up on and you just gotta keep moving and hope that you’ll get back to the parts your missing
Lucky Dice DinerExpedition EscapeEscape roomIRLI really loved that it was linear but also had multiple ways to start. From each of the starts it flowed very well. There were a ton of unique puzzles and every puzzle/path still had nods to the theme and end goal. I really loved the experience!
The Blind Tiger SpeakeasyExpedition EscapeEscape roomIRLWas an awesome experience, lots of unique puzzles that flowed nicely into each other. A speakeasy is a very common theme but they put their own twist on it and we enjoyed that very much.
Quest For The ThroneExpedition EscapeEscape roomIRLSort of an “old school” style escape room but still a well designed one. We narrowly escaped but at no point were we just sitting in frustration, we were always moving and engaged. Very well themed and interesting puzzles involved.
Nevermore - CLOSEDEscapades LLCEscape roomIRLThe vibes were good, I felt very welcome and invited. But the game master didn’t start the timer after leaving the room until we asked if we should be starting or if there was a video/voiceover intro. It didn’t really flow, I felt like I was left guessing a lot and the props felt like they were on the verge of crumbling in my hand. I can see the effort put into the room but it felt a bit low budget to me. I get as if a friend was throwing an escape room themed birthday party. Outside of the escape room itself the facility also felt very cramped with stuff adding to the basement vibes.
Bubba's Backyard Bar-B-Que And BrouhahaThink Solve EscapeEscape roomIRLReally fun experience, laugh out loud at times
