Sweethearts Ice Cream ParlourThe Cool SpaceEscape roomIRLPHOTOS HAVE SPOILERS This room was super great. Just an FYI, that this place is run by just two guys, Josh and Daniel. The room feels like a labor of love, as the set design is clean without anything out of place. Our GM was Daniel, and he was super friendly. They currently don't have recorded voice overs, so it's super funny that the narration is live (more Immersive with the story). This room is multi-linear, and I came with a group of 4 so we had 2 pairs working together on the two separate lines of puzzles. There's a lot of word locks which are of course brute force-able, but I like seeing the words in theme. There were a handful of puzzles that were unique that I have never seen before which were fun and novel. One thing that's interesting is how involved the GM can get, since as it turns out many of the puzzles aren't automatically triggered by scanners but rather a verification by camera. That allows more of a prevention of brute forcing which I think is really unique and takes effort. Also, they provide you a statistics graph at the end of the room which I think is the coolest thing I've ever seen at an escape room since you really get to see how well you did very specifically. Overall really enjoyed the theme of the room and how immersive it was. The final reveal was a little creepy and there are moments where the room goes pitch dark. But you also get ice cream at the end and a custom pin. Definitely highly recommend these guys and was personally worth a visit from me who is just visiting Sydney from the US.
PlaygroundThe Escape Game - Westfield UTCEscape roomIRLThis room is super great for a ton of people. There are a TON of puzzles, and they're mostly nonlinear. The theming is cool and the objectives are satisfying and click. There's some dexterity based puzzles which I think are just fun. The last puzzle is also fun and helped feel lots of comradery.
The Bayou: The Legend of the Midnight RavenThe EntrapmentEscape roomIRLI thought this room was fun and long. There's an extra expert ending that you can do if you finish fast enough which I always think is rewarding. I think we had like one glitch in the puzzles, but other than that everything seemed to work. The story is pretty interesting and the transition to the second part was cool. Overall desiring to finish the entire 3 room series after this one.
The Disappearance at Fogmore ManorThe EntrapmentEscape roomIRLI thought this room was super fun. Honestly loved it. There are A LOT of puzzles. My group was very experienced (3 people with 25+ rooms of experience) and we barely finished in time, even though we never really got stuck on anything. I think the objects you interact with are neat and funny. One weakness is there's a lot of reading but I guess I enjoy following instructions. There's a lot of riddles, but I thought they were all pretty enjoyable. Tech is pretty cool, everything worked as expected. Our game master was nice and started a little later to accommodate some of our team who came a little late. Would highly recommend overall!
40 ThievesMindTrap Escape Room - TemeculaEscape roomIRLPretty fun room, cool lighting and tech, but overall thought the puzzles were pretty easy. We would've brushed through them all except one puzzle was broken and the GM couldn't tell, so we wait about 10 minutes. There are pretty cool puzzles requiring things like smell, and I can see how this could be a harder room for others but most things kind of aligned with my group's thought process. The theme and set design was good. However, I think it was harder to justify making the 45 minute drive up though.
Escape from the Red RoomREAL ESCAPE GAME CROSSING AsakusaEscape roomIRLVery very interesting room, though not too many puzzles. Even with my experience I was very confused and couldn't figure out what to do many times. A very unique room!
Mad Lab: ResurrectionGreat Room Escape - San DiegoEscape roomIRLThis room is bordering between disliked and liked for me. I did this room with 6 people, 4 of which were basically beginners and actually did not help at all. We had to use 2 hints, and you only get three. I think that all of the puzzles were possible to do without hints. However, from my memory of this company before they moved to this location, the rooms tend to have a significant number of red herrings. Probably 75% of the items you have access to have no relation to any of the puzzles. This isn't bad if you're experienced, but with beginners, this made things very confusing as multiple incorrect passcodes were attempted. One annoyance I had was that one of the rooms had bad lighting and I definitely had a hard time telling what color something was, which was critical to the answer. I think that area should definitely better light. The room itself has pretty averagely themed. Not amazing but with all the red herrings, it was just pretty average. The tech is pretty much right in-between high tech and mechanical. Regarding the "live actor", the reason why the other review complains is that they didn't understand that the live actor is really just your game master with a costume on. She's just there to make sure rules aren't broken and give clues when needed. Which I do agree is pretty awkward as compared to just having them watch from a camera. Another thing I think the game master was supposed to do was "quarantine" our players, but I think that they might only do that when you have a lot more people and they need to entertain. One thing that I dislike that she did was kinda interfere and give us an unasked hint by telling us to write some codes down quickly since they were timed. I don't think she had to do that since we still had a decent amount of time. Lastly, one of the locks gets a bit stuck so she was already there to help open it. Super friendly though. All in all, somewhat below average room, but still fun.
Gold RushThe Escape Game - San JoseEscape roomIRLGood theme in my opinion, but some puzzles were really hard to think of what to do on them. I think we spent like 25 minutes not knowing what to do, then quickly figured out after. Pretty small and not too many puzzles though.
The Curse Of KV62 - CLOSEDLocked AdventuresEscape roomIRLMy team and I blew through this room. The puzzles aren't super straight forward, but I guess with our experience it was pretty beginner level. There weren't that many puzzles but they were high tech so it was definitely fun to experience. Our game master was super nice and was really excited to recommend some other escape rooms to us. Note that pharaoh only talks to you if you ask for hints. Which we didn't so we didn't really interact with pharaoh lol
Lost CityEscapology - San DiegoEscape roomIRLLinear but future puzzles were available to see so it was slightly nonlinear in that way. I think the theme was decent, not super immersive but a pretty basic theme. I thought the puzzles were fun, nothing too novel, but I'd say very standard. There were multiple rooms which was pretty cool.
Special Ops: Mysterious MarketThe Escape Game - GaslampEscape roomIRLThis room is like on the verge of love and like for me. There's a ton of unique puzzles with awesome theming. Like the theme was super on point, the rooms here always have such high production quality. But there weren't that many puzzles, probably only about 13-15 total. I went with about 7 other pretty experienced/smart people and this room is nonlinear, so we legitimately were blazing through the room. There's videos that are shown where they're supposed to pause the time, but they specifically didn't pause because apparently if they did then we would've escaped in like 30 minutes. But I really like the high tech things that are in this room. This room is also on the pricier side at $44.99. Was fun in my opinion, our game master was super chill and let us preview the other rooms too. You can also film and take pictures in the room while you're here! I like the company, with I got a discount voucher before leaving (20% off your next room)

The Family CabinQuicksand Escape GamesEscape roomIRLReally fun room. There's a ton of puzzles and almost all of them were unique and had I'd never seen before. Took about half the time to get to the second part of the room and I was filled with dread when I saw the second room having so many puzzles. The people I went with this time were pretty beginner and so I was essentially doing most of solving myself, which I can say is really hard in this room. There's unlimited hints, so at the end I just started continually asking for hints with 5 minutes left, and barely finished. The theme was a throwback though I had only interacted with some of the things in the room when I was really young. I'm not too cultured with 90s-00s music so my friends did help me there. The party before us accidentally took a item of the room, and the game masters were thinking about what to do very politely, but luckily the party brought the item back. However, the game masters accidentally forgot to lock the third to last puzzle so they had to come into the room to relock it, which broke the immersion a little, but they were super nice about it. Puzzles were primarily linear until second half of the room where it branches for a bit but is still primarily linear. Would highly recommend!
ConfinementRed Door Escape Room - San DiegoEscape roomIRLI'm a big scaredy cat. I looked at all the reviews and I was kinda scared that I'd freak out in this room. Honestly, not too spooky at all. No creepiness from being antique or old. Not really any blood. The spookiness is probably on the equivalent of going to a Halloween store. Somewhat glad for this though. I think that room was pretty fun, I don't like to use hints but there were some puzzles where my group just didn't know what to do, and that was mainly just because the puzzles were unique. None of the puzzles were stupid/unfair, there was a very standard flow to everything. Puzzles were both linear and nonlinear, and there were a handful of riddles, which actually take thinking to solve. GM was very welcoming and friendly. It was $40 and had tax in addition which was somewhat on the pricey side but I think this room just really felt like a standard good escape room. This room is considered one of their harder rooms, but I do think it was pretty medium level.
Prison BreakThe Escape Game - GaslampEscape roomIRLI think this room has it all. Multiple rooms. Split team. High tech. Good puzzles. Potentially non-linear. Really enjoyed this room. I think they're so confident in their production that they even allow photos and videos literally during the room. First time I've been to a room that allows that. They have infinite clues in this room. We escaped with barely any time, but I also spammed the clue button for the last 15 minutes, just every time we completed a clue I pressed it again. Pretty shameful as someone who prides themself on being experienced at escape rooms. One crazy thing is also the fact that you actually break some props which I've also never experienced at any room. Some unfortunate things about the room are that it is shared unless you book all the slots. We ended up with 3 randoms with my party of 4. Another thing was that a lock can be opened with your hand, without the tool. However, we didn't even do this because the door latch actually broke off. We ended up skipping like half of the puzzles in a room, but I guess at least we probably wouldn't have escaped otherwise. Lastly, our GM also wasn't the most friendly. Though she did explain the puzzles we missed, she went too fast and I still am missing a piece of the puzzle. She kinda ignored me after I asked to clarify again. The receptionist Lily was very nice though. All in all, really great room. A little on the pricey side ($44) but worth it in my opinion. Hoping to do other rooms here in the future!
Deadwood Valley [VR]Sandbox VREscape roomIRLI would not say this is an escape room. There is an escape aspect in this game mode, but I don't think there is necessarily escaping in their other rooms. It really is just a virtual reality first-person shooter game. No puzzles whatsoever. Basically teeters on being a real life escape room and a virtual one, and I would probably say it isn't really a real life escape room. However, that doesn't mean that it isn't fun, because it was fun. Their tracking is really good because they add trackers to your wrists and ankles, so the arm and leg tracking works great. They also have cameras to film you and they give you a highlight video afterwards that switches between how you look in the game and how you look in real life. For the game itself, this is the sequel to Deadwood Mansion (I didn't play this one yet), and it thematically is pretty cool. The game itself has multiple rounds with different environments, but still note you're confined to the space marked within the room. The graphics quality wasn't the highest and the zombies aren't the realest, but better for me since I'm a scaredy cat. Pretty similar zombie quality to other zombie VR games or even non-VR games. You get infinite lives, and I think there's a hardcore mode that removes the laser that comes out of your gun (like your crosshair). All in all fun, but somewhat expensive. I have an Oculus Quest 2 at home, and so $40 for a session can be pretty pricey. However, you do get videos which can be fun to share with family.
The A.I. - CLOSEDThe Exit Game - San DiegoEscape roomIRLSad that this place closed. The room is actually really cool and has some fun and unique technological puzzles. Freddie Wong showed up at the beginning. There's a challenge mode if you finish the room fast enough.
Budapest ExpressEscapology - San DiegoEscape roomIRLI enjoyed it, but some important puzzles can really only be done by like 2 players at most, which ends up leaving the rest of the party unsatisfied/left out (I was one of the 2). I think one of the room resetters messed up one of the puzzles which actually happened a previous time I came to this location.
Mystery At The Last Point LodgeBrainy Actz - San DiegoEscape roomIRLOne room so not the most exciting. I don't think the puzzles were that bad from what I can remember, I think the ending reveal ended up being pretty satisfying and felt like we earned it. It was a relatively cheap room ($24.25 at the time). There are probably better bang for your buck rooms in SD though.
Mansion MurderEscapology - San DiegoEscape roomIRLI liked it but our room didn't get reset properly and so a key was lying out next to the lock. There was a few puzzles that I felt would be insane to solve but someone on my team really thinks outside the box. Some of my party was of the opinion that the puzzles did not really make sense.
