Election DayAppleseed AvenueEscape roomOther One of the most innovative and beautifully made immersive experiences I’ve ever done, and the guys behind it are so personable and friendly. A detailed story, a diverse set of puzzle challenges, a really wry and clever sense of humor, and tons of painstaking detail throughout. many, many surprises. Because there are two factions your group is split into, it’s actually repeatable at least once, which is pretty great — and they are adding more cases to solve! Worth every penny, your group will LOVE it. I definitely recommend at least five or six people.
The Last SupperQuest TavernEscape roomIRLEqual parts spooky and silly, with some great player interactions with the main character. Definitely benefits players who “commit to the bit” — play along, be silly, and “yes-and” everything! Some very satisfying mechanical puzzles and reveals, a detailed and spooky atmosphere, and a very fun pulse-pounding ending!
Flynn's ArcadeBrain Games Escape RoomEscape roomIRLWE ESCAPED THE GRID! Flynn’s Arcade escape room is truly top-tier. Great tech, clever physical puzzles, lots of teamwork needed — and as a TRON supernerd, not to mention a Gen Xer who grew up one block from an arcade from 1978 through 1998 , it made me totally giddy with glee. Highly recommended.
Atlantis: The Forgotten CityHypnotic Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLReally beautiful environments and intricate physical/mechanical puzzle designs. Really benefited from a big group, gave everyone something to do. Some of the puzzles became a little bit repetitive in terms of finding objects and then taking them to respective solve locations, but the overall vibe is so much fun that it didn’t bother me. Super immersive and well-made!
The Ghost Of MentryvilleArcane Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLDon’t be fooled by the small size and stature of this one-room experience — it has a surprisingly deep level of gameplay, and a compelling story that literally goes from micro to macro, guided by a live character who acts as spooky exposition and subtle, living hint system. There’s no timer here, so slow down, immerse yourself in the creepy lore, listen to everything that Sam has to say (and I do mean *everything*), play along with the mildly horrific story (but don’t worry, no jump scares), and let the solutions to the just-right puzzle challenges pull you into the experience. Don’t rush. It’s great.
The Nest [Immersive Theatre]Hatch EscapesEscape roomOther Simply one of the best immersive experiences I’ve ever had — combining interactivity and beautifully haunting environments to slowly and methodically unravel an unexpectedly moving story. It uses the techniques of an escape room to uncover fragments of someone’s memories found in their personal effects strewn through a mysterious storage unit. It’s wistful and sad and beautiful. Hard to describe, but I was absolutely shattered by it, left me in tears. Not really an escape room, per se — but don’t miss it, it’s incredible.
Whatever Happened To The Garretts?Maze Rooms - West LAEscape roomIRLA really fun solve for two people, loved the suburban 1980s vibe, loved the gradual reveal of the big idea behind the finale, which was super satisfying. Very challenging, not punishing. Some clever use of a few puzzle mechanics that I’ve never seen before. The environment were all top-notch, and the staff was great.
The LadderHatch EscapesEscape roomIRLA truly unique experience that has something for everyone, which is both praise and criticism. If you’re a die hard puzzler and escape room fan, you might leave a little bit disappointed, but if you go with an open mind and know that it’s not so much an escape room as it is a linear immersive video game with puzzles that you can play with up to 10 of your friends, then you’ll have a great time. It’s a unique story, some good twists and turns, really incredible tech and integration, and a great host. I’ve done it twice and thoroughly enjoyed both times, and it is explicitly designed to be repeatable. But your mileage may vary, and a few people in my group enjoyed it but didn’t rank it as high as other escape rooms in the complex like lab rat.
