Heresy: 1897Doors of DivergenceEscape roomIRLThis was a highly inventive and engrossing immersive room, which has multiple choices throughout that will change your ending - AND allow you to replay the room multiple times with different puzzles & endings throughout. The space was beautifully arranged and our Proctor (host) was terrific. Our only regret was going into a public room - we just wound up with unengaged players who kind of spoiled the atmosphere. Recommend passionate players intentionally book the whole space out. Bonus points for having a bar open on site before we started, my cider hit the spot!!
Madness: 1917Doors of DivergenceEscape roomIRLAbsolutely brilliant sequel to Heresy, just as strong as the first.
Ghost LightMyssTic RoomsEscape roomIRLSolid storytelling for a linear intermediate game. A ghost story for people who don’t like scary rooms!
Montauk ProjectMyssTic RoomsEscape roomIRLLinear game that with observation is relatively easy to get through. Set design and concept is cute, reminiscent of Stranger Things. This is a good room for beginners, we didn’t find it challenging as 2 players.
The Cutting RoomLocked In EdinburghEscape roomIRLVery engrossing non-lateral room, with many twists and turns! We completed this with 2 people, but I’d recommend 3 or more… there’s a lot of ground to cover 😅
Steampunk AliceMaze Rooms - LAXEscape roomIRLThis was… a really weird one. In terms of set design, we wanted to love this. Very unexpected and creative puzzles, one room in particular is extremely stunning. Unfortunately we were uncomfortable from the very beginning - our room started about 10 min late because the game master was the only person working and needed to help the team before us as well as completely reset our room. He complained about management to us as well… very awkward beginning. But as soon as we got into the room we could tell this was an extremely poorly managed space. What was once probably gorgeous is now heavily worn, preventing us from reading or solving some puzzles. Despite the warning we received about force, one puzzle required such a shocking level of force we were afraid to solve it. And at one point I honestly thought one of the items in the room was a sex toy, it was so poorly designed. As we left the room the game master once again voiced his intense complaints against management. Probably time for this room to get a facelift, and to hire some additional help.
Sky OdysseyMaze Rooms - VermontEscape roomIRLPro tip- you don’t require 4 people for this room. We finished with plenty of time with 2. That said it is a big space with many puzzles, which is why they set the room count so high.
Lunar MissionMaze Rooms - VermontEscape roomIRLMan this room has some real promise and must have been iconic when it was new. Unfortunately it’s incredibly run-down and literally 2 of the puzzles completely didn’t work. The owner of this location also owns the Playa location, where we had similar issues with quality and maintenance in Steampunk Alice. A real shame since the creativity is definitely there, and it’s always a wonderful surprise to find escape rooms that don’t require manual locks!
Escobar: Part 2 (The Final Hour)The Escape RevolutionEscape roomIRLAll I’m gonna say is… use your power of observation in this one. If you have sensory issues, may be one to pass.
Sherlock Holmes & Beautiful MindMaze Rooms - Robertson BlvdEscape roomIRLFirst off - the staff here are AMAZING and super helpful. The rooms are also beautifully designed and theoretically very fun to play. I love rooms that don’t heavily rely on padlocks and this room was fully triggered by tech. And that was the issue. Multiple solves didn’t fire correctly, causing us to double-think what were otherwise very straightforward solves and waste a ton of time. Our game master was deeply apologetic and blamed the heavy rain we’re experiencing today in LA on the issues, so I imagine this would’ve been really fun on a clear and sunny day… we just had bad luck.
