“This isn’t just an escape room, it’s an adventure through multiple large temples! It’s basically The Legend of Zelda’s puzzle dungeons come to life! Everything works together in effective ways, from the fun live actor moments to the cinematic sequences, and a dazzling display of moving lights and music. There’s a bunch of verticality and puzzles that require looking high and low through the expansive spaces. And the fun comes in never quite knowing where you’ll end up next. There’s a beautiful finale that made the long trek worth it! Run, do not walk, RUN, toward the light!”

“There were 6 experienced players in our group and we had a lot of fun. I personally enjoyed 1917 more but this room was also very good. I believe most of the others in my group liked this room more. The character actors in both rooms were amazing. Set designs and story lines were very good. Puzzles were good but these rooms are more about the overall experience and interaction with the character actors than it is about the quantity of puzzles. I love that you can replay the rooms and have multiple different story arcs. As several others have mentioned, my only two complaints would be the noise coming from other rooms kills the vibe of the room and finding the door to the place was very difficult. Give yourself a few extra minutes to locate the proper entrance. I would love to see them fix both these issues.”

“We did this with our kids and it was so much fun. They could keep up and solve the puzzles with us. (Ages 6 and 9). 5 people was a good amount. I think if room was full with 12 people it would be too many.”

“There were 6 experienced players in our group and we had a lot of fun. I personally enjoyed this room better than 1897 but the 1897 room was also good. I believe most of the others in my group liked the other room more. The character actors in both rooms were amazing and there was a lot of acting in this room. Probably the most of any room we have ever done. Set designs and story lines were very good. Puzzles were good but these rooms are more about the overall experience and interaction with the character actors than it is about the quantity of puzzles. I love that you can replay the rooms and have multiple different story arcs. “This was an amazing experience. The live actors were great and the puzzles were novel. This was not a puzzle heavy experience and would be great for people who don’t typically do escape rooms. The immersive setting was amazing and made this a very fun experience for us! Shout out to Parker and Ian who made this so much fun for us!”

“We took a road trip down to Charlotte from Raleigh in order to experience Activate for the first time. It was an fun experience - the challenges were well-designed and the sense of progression via the gamification was well-done. I wish they would let less people in at a time, but it was still enjoyable.”

“Great room by the escape game! The set and special effects were surprisingly good, especially in the first room. The story was fun too and had a solid plot twist which we enjoyed and didn’t see coming! Definitely recommend.”

“This was such a cool room - afterwards they told us we were the second group to play it and honestly there were no kinks. This was super immersive, we love that it linked to the Keepers world. I loved that the puzzles were novel and unlike things we had done before. The rooms are so well done and extremely diverse. Highly recommend!!”

Charlotte is a charming and upbeat city with a lot to offer in terms of entertainment and activities. Some of the things that make Charlotte fun include its beautiful natural setting, with its many parks and green spaces, its thriving arts and culture scene, its vibrant food and drink culture, and its many outdoor recreational opportunities. There are also many popular attractions in Charlotte, such as the Carolina Panthers football team, the Charlotte Hornets basketball team, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center. All of these things combine to make Charlotte a fun and exciting place to visit or live.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
