“Always down for a good Gen1 room and this one totally satisfied our escape room craving. I would say family friendly with a sinister vibe. Nothing real scary and fairly linear. There was just 2 of us and we managed just fine. A few puzzles were new to us too, which is always nice to experience. Highly recommend if you are in the area. We found this place by luck as we were just passing through. We were so glad we did it. GM/Owner Jenee was awesome and super friendly. Even spent a decent amount of time after to talk about escape rooms. Love that! We can totally see her passion for it and she mentioned she’s got another in the works! Would love to come back when that new one is ready. It was such a great evening of fun!”

“Really fun but we felt a little overwhelmed with so many pieces of puzzles all showing up at once- it was hard to juggle it all correctly. The atmosphere was epic. Staff were very cool and helpful. Really cool experience but I would highly suggest taking a few people that have done escape rooms before as this is very difficult and it’s their hardest room. Lots of stuff to do- we didn’t even come close to finishing.”

“I really loved this room! So many interesting puzzles and a cool flow. We did it with a group of 6 and that went well. I wouldn’t recommend more than that though- the space isn’t too big. The puzzles were cool and some novel to me. We enjoyed it and it felt extremely well-paced”

“Set design at Enchambered is outstanding, and Whispering Halls is one of their best. Most of the interactions are tech, leading to an appropriate feeling of spookiness. Stepping into the second room was jawdropping - I wanted to just pause and take in everything -- and simply seeing one particular door had me thinking "this is clearly cursed, and I'm not sure I want to go in there". There's a lot going on in this room - our group of 5 enthusiasts was constantly working on stuff. Space felt more of a constraint than content - the first room was a little cramped at 5, and there were later sequences that were smaller. This might pose a problem for less experienced groups. There was usually more than one thing to work on, and keeping track of stuff was a little difficult (both due to our group size and because we spread out) - there were multiple times when one person would pick up something that had already been dealt with. That's partly on us - we should have organized better - but IMHO also partly due to the design of the room. Puzzlewise, there were some slightly bumpy spots: I think one spot was underclued where we ended up needing a hint, there was a search fail because of ambiguity about what we were looking for, and the graphic design of one prop made us think it was supposed to be used in the wrong place.”

“After many escape room experiences it’s been awhile since a rooms esthetics have blown me away enough to not take it all in and still escape under time. The staff was amazing and the room itself took me back to my childhood, with a twist.”

“NEO is a blossoming escape company that is still working on their rooms. With this in mind, I have a lot of faith in their ability to create excellent rooms. Capitol’s set design is a solid middle ground, not appearing cheap but also not having anything incredible either. Due to the room being unfinished, the areas I had the biggest issue with appearance wise tended to be the areas they were actively working on improving, which eased my fears. Puzzle wise, this room is spectacular. It’s a true testament to fun puzzle solving and exciting solutions, and shows PERFECTLY how you can make puzzles more fun without the inclusion of 30 four digit locks. Not to mention, this is the first time I actually started having a good time during the GM’s speech. The gamemaster, Gabriel, was not only kind but funny, even during the opening speech. Please give this room a try, and I’ll be sure to return to this room in the future as I am absolutely thrilled to see the finals results. A 9/10 experience for me.”

“We enjoyed this escape room and the puzzles within it. Our host was very friendly. There was some technical glitches with the very last puzzle and we would have escaped a lot sooner if it had been working properly.”

“It's a tough call, but I think this was my favorite room at Exit Strategy. I didn't love the guidebook -- I prefer figuring out things more organically -- and suspect that players wanting a bigger challenge could mostly ignore it. There were two moments in the room that I wasn't quite expecting but found delightful. Like all Exit Strategy games, they aim for a 100% success rate, so this is not a difficult room, especially for enthusiasts. It's still well worth playing. That's not to say the game was perfect - there was a bit of a tech hiccup with a magical artifact. Talking to the GM afterwards, it's something they're aware of but seems difficult to fix.”

“If you’re up for a good friendly challenge then this a fun one to try out. I really enjoyed the player to game interactions that happened throughout the entire experience. Our GM did an excellent job assigning us the correct positions in the game. This game can get a bit loud and competitive at times but that’s because we were all trying to win.”

“Like all rooms at Exit Strategy, this game seemed super smooth and polished, which I really appreciate. It was also on the easy side (as are all their games), but I'm OK with not being their target difficulty and appreciate them thinking so much about a positive player experience. This was one of the best split start rooms I've ever played, and this is a big reason I rated this room highly. My nightmare for split starts is when one side is sitting around for extended periods with nothing to do, waiting for the other side to finish their backlog of puzzles or finally find the key they've been overlooking since the beginning. The Butcher's Torture Chamber did a brilliant job avoiding this -- we were constantly doing things and passing information back and forth, which is IMHO the strength and point of a split start. The set was more a Halloween level of spooky/gruesome rather than really going for creepy, so it's (relatively) family friendly.”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
