“One of the best rooms I’ve ever experienced. A near-perfect blend of gripping story and mind-blowing puzzles, all wrapped up in a super tiny yet dense room. The live actor, the titular Ghost, is the main attraction, and he is amazing. In the room the entire time with you, the Ghost is not there to scare, but there to share. Though our interactions with him were technically brief, he was always there guiding us through his intricate story, filled with surprises, intrigue, and blood. The Ghost masterfully pulled us in to the room, and the central prop, which is creatively woven into the space. I had chills the entire time. While the room itself isn’t technically scary, there are creepy moments, intense drama, and loads of gore. There’s a dreamlike quality that I can’t describe, and I felt comfortable and yet also anxious at the same time, as the story unfolded. The finale will stick in my mind long after today. There’s no game loss condition here, nor a time limit. The ghost will be there with you until you finish the storyline no matter how long it takes. There’s a reason why this small room is rated so highly. It’s worth a trip to see this Ghost. It’s like seeing an old friend again.”

“We did both the basement and the study back to back with group of 5. We had a blast and have to give credit to our gamemaster and the live actors here because they are the best we have seen. We have done 40+ rooms so far and haven’t seen puzzles and gameplay quite like this. Would like to come back for courtyard!”

“This is actually the one room at The Basement that gets a love from me, just because of its relative uniqueness in the wide pantheon of escape rooms out there. But for god’s sake I hope this business someday figures out they need to be a bit clearer and more organized on the hint system (this based on reading other reviews on here, and our own experience in a couple of the other rooms, heading into which two different game masters never explained the clue system or lack thereof—though we weren’t in need of any nudges in The Elevator). We did this with two and frankly I wouldn’t do it with more than that, maybe 3 at max.”

“The study was my first room at the basement. It was amazing in every way. Perfect amount of scary and challenging. The actor made the room so immersive and was so kind after the game. I love this location and cannot wait to do more rooms here”

“I love this whole series of The Basement from end to end and the finish was just great. The set design was fantastic and the puzzles were super fun to work through. We did get a little stuck a couple times but Partly that’s just because the room is relatively big and there were only three of us and at least one is doesn’t usually do escape rooms. Even with all that, we managed to squeak out with very little time to spare. I would def recommend doing this whole series from the beginning. It was so fun!”

“An all-day experience from 10AM-4PM on a weekday, all 4 escape rooms in this location back-to-back and given essentially up to 90 minutes a room. Light food and drinks in a private room provided. Tier list from most favorite to least favorite: 1. Chapter 1 - The Basement (live actor) 2. Chapter 3 - The Study (live actor) 3. Chapter 4 - The Courtyard (live actor) 4. Chapter 2 - The Elevator Shaft”

“I rate this room a 5/5 (ck out my bio for rating system). This room scored all possible points from me. The set/theme was off the charts! It was completely immersive with great attention to detail and a record number of subrooms. No locks to be found anywhere, yet a variety of different puzzles as well as many kinds we hadn't seen before and medium in difficulty for a group of 3 experienced players. It's very important to keep your eyes open in this room because you can easily miss things. I enjoyed it immensely. Lots of 'wowza' moments! I'm eager to try their other rooms at some point!”

“This room was amazing , the feeling of eerie definitely immersed you into the storyline. Hypnotic definitely put a few new good twist on the classic asylum room. Will definitely go back for their other rooms. The game masters have all been very friendly and helpful”

“Really well done room, especially for simple tech (mainly combo locks and keys). Very thoughtful and intelligently put together. Can be a little hard for just two people if you get caught up once or twice. Would recommend 3+ people to manage all the puzzles happening (there are a lot!).”

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
