“The staff here are amazing! The manager in the front with the southern accent was our favorite. There was a puzzle in this room that was just not clicking for our party. When we asked about it at the end after not escaping, apparently “every group that day failed on that puzzle” So… take it out or change it? Lol Otherwise this company did a great job”

“This may be an unpopular opinion based on the people who I’ve chatted with about this room, but this is my favorite room at The Basement! The Courtyard may be one of the most immersive escape rooms I’ve played thus far. The set was so well done and the perfect amount of eerie, it was very suspenseful, and the puzzles were the perfect difficulty for my group. I would recommend coming with 4 players or so because my party of 2 found ourselves running back and forth a lot 😅 Finally, my favorite part of the room would have to be our actor! They were incredible and elevated the room to the next level. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a dose of creepiness. The Courtyard lives rent free in my brain.”

“Dead and Breakfast is a worthwhile compilation of your experience! Note that you will start out of order but that will not detract from your experience. They give you fair warnings before you enter each room with what to expect and the production value and live actors are top notch. I find myself leaning towards the live actor in the study the most as Aiden captured both hint giving and the theme most vividly. It's scary, but not too scary. I think most will manage just fine. I will say that none of the actors lacked passion here. And neither will you.”

“I don't feel like this room gets enough mention in the area. Of the almost 50 games we played in SoCal, this was the best set. The space is huge, so if you like uncovering new spaces then you will love this room. The puzzles aren't too difficult, but the room flows well. The space can definitely accommodate a large group, but it is linear, so you may not want to take more than a group of four.”

“Probably one of the best (if not the best) Egypt game I’ve played. Set was fantastic, interactions were clever and fun, and with the exception of one or two puzzles, a premium, high quality experience. The beginning and ending sections stand out from the rest of the room in particular, but everything is just so impressive and well done that the whole experience is fantastic. And one of the most fun endings of any game I’ve experienced. Very well done.”

“What a game. All of the puzzles were high tech. The puzzles were interesting and high tech. No locks at all. All the puzzles were fun and creative. The GM had to help my group when we got stuck, but it wasn’t a hint (stuff like “you have to rotate that” when it wasn’t obvious that we had to). One puzzle was a little broken but it didn’t make too much of an impact. The atmosphere was great”

“I’m so surprised that something so rooted to a very specific person in history has inspired not just one, but two whole escape rooms. But Escobar shows that any passionate topic can become an escape room. This room follows the story of drug lord and cartel leader Pablo Escobar. I don’t know much about him, but I feel like I’ve learned quite a bit just from playing the room. Goes to show how educational escape rooms can be! I particularly liked the Colombian set design, and the tasks you get to do in the room feel raw and practical. I even got to do something cathartic that I never thought I’d do in a room. We even had to confirm with the GM if we could do it, which felt wild and a little confusing. My biggest peeve is how strict the room is about time. We were a few minutes late, and we basically had 10-15 minutes taken off our clock… Yea, we shouldn’t have been late, but wow. We ended up escaping, but we needed more hints than usual to make up for the time loss. It is a hard room, regardless, and there is a puzzle that requires you to literally wait a few minutes. I still loved the room despite our experiences, and I do like this one more than Escobar Part 2, which we did immediately after.”

“What I appreciated most about this room compared to similar rooms was how it featured practical hands-on puzzles that utilized the environment rather than making you simply search for codes. It leads to an immersive breakout experience that others wish it could replicate! Even though it follows similar trends like a split start and an office room, the directions the room takes aside from those aspects are novel. The room trusts you with what you are given and makes you figure out the layout of the facility to find your way out. The puzzles are hard too! The biggest issue was how loud certain things were during the split start that made our already limited communication between the separated team frustrating. It’s a hard room, so be proud if you make a great escape! The ending was a fantastic finale after all we had done in the room to get there!”

“One of my favorite escape rooms I've ever done. The experience starts when you show up--the host acts the part. You've joined the crew and are being tested. The rest is up to you. There's some trickery--slight of hand stuff, but all in all it's a really good room. There's this part that's under the bed--a cabinet-like space under the king-sized bed above. I didn't go under there at all, but I hear it's like a room within a room. Some of the puzzles were a little challenging... the records on the wall! I loved it! There was a strong smell in the grow room. God, what a fun room. We absolutely loved it. :)”

“Such a great love letter to old-school cartoons and comics and a fun room that pokes fun at the talented creators who draw them! Think Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets Cuphead! The room features plenty of ink and black-and-white cartoon-based puzzles. It’s mostly gen 1 style with lots of locks, but it’s manageable with stickers and labels that guide the unlocking process. We were particularly wowed as we went further into the world and were super impressed by the artistic techniques used to create a world of cartoons! Between the style, the hilarious humor, and the silver-screen style music, I imagined I was in an oldies cartoon, or at least Cuphead. There is so much to love about this murder mystery toon room! The escape room scene is alive in Los Angeles. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Los Angeles in 2016, the film capital of the United States hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, Los Angeles proper is home to 49 different escape room venues. If you look around, you’ll notice several places that are expanding the definition of experiential entertainment in Hollywood. From the expansive Escape Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard to the innovative Escape Revolution on Melrose Avenue, there’s plenty to experience in the City of Angels. With over 170 escape games in the entire area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
There are plenty of awesome escape rooms to choose from in Los Angeles. The goal of Morty is to make escape rooms more accessible for everyone to find and play. With Morty, you can: - Browse escape rooms anywhere in the country - Read reviews and ratings from other community members - Book a room together with your friends Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned escape room enthusiast, our aim is to help you play more escape rooms and visit more immersive attractions.
Most escape room venues don’t accept walk-ins, and time slots for popular games may fill up fast. Besides that, not every escape room is the same — some have varying difficulties, and you don’t want to get stuck playing a room that’s beyond your experience level. That’s why the best way to book an escape room in Los Angeles is through the Morty app. You can get updates on new games, read reviews, compare details (including difficulty, theme, runtime) and plan an outing with friends, all on the same platform. You can even coordinate games with your friends collaboratively. Download the Morty app and book your adventure today!
