Curiosity Escape Rooms [prev. Clever Fox Escape Rooms - Menifee]

This was a fun and easy room for our group of 4 experienced players. Despite its small size it kept all 4 of us entertained and engaged throughout the entire thing. I would recommend it as a beginner room or for those looking to be introduced to rooms with slightly different puzzles than the norm. Experienced players would find this room easy but still enjoyable overall. Keep in mind that the lighting is a bit dim as it adds to the overall atmosphere and you'll have to pay close attention to details throughout the room in order to solve the puzzles without hints. Our GMs were the site's owners and they were awesome in how they treated us. They gave us great recommendations to other rooms throughout Southern California we would enjoy and thoroughly explained how rules and clues worked at this location. We also appreciated how we didn't get unsolicited hints unless it was to fix a mechanical hiccup or correct us on something we didn't place quite right. Great GMs and awesome owners who are always looking to improve and tweak their rooms!

Exodus Escape Room - Rancho Cucamonga

This was the last of 3 escape rooms my group of 6 did at this location on the same day and was how we wrapped up our night.Rebecca, our GM, took amazing care of us both in and out of our rooms and made sure to respect our wishes regarding hints and playstyles without issues or complaints. We couldn't have asked for a better GM that night! As for the room, we found it to be the easiest of the 3 we did but still thoroughly enjoyed it. For context, we did Villains, Inside Job, and KnightFall, in that order. KnightFall was well decorated and themed without being overwhelming and the amount of puzzles was perfect for keeping us all engaged in pairs until the very end. I would definitely recommend it as a fun and quirky room but I do think it would be most challenging and fulfilling for a group of 4. Overall our group had a great time at Exodus and were glad we were able to make the drive to experience these rooms back to back. We have previously completed Ink and Ashes and Olympus at other locations and annot wait to visit their Anaheim Hills location again to complete the last two rooms they currently have available. I would happily recommend both this company and our awesome GM to anyone looking to have a fun time with an escape room.

Inside Job

This was the second out of 3 rooms my team of 6 did in a day at this location. Rebecca, our GM, was amazing and took great care of us between and through every room! The room itself was unique and fun, adding a touch of panic whenever the guard checked in on the bank. We found it to be of medium difficulty, bordering on hard, between the 3 rooms we did that day and our biggest issue was honestly being patient enough to find parts of puzzles we obviously could see were not yet discovered. For context, we did Villains, Inside Job, and KnightFall, in that order. We were surprised to have our larger group of 6 fully engaged in pairs from start to nearly finish. We rarely hit bottlenecks for more than a few minutes and had fun solving the numerous puzzles all over the room. My best advice with this room is to be patient if you think you are missing a clue or part of the puzzle. There's a very good chance you just haven't found it yet but quickly will. The room itself is large and it can easily accommodate a larger group of people with the puzzles being great for those who like to team up or go at them individually. While this would be a challenge for a 2 or 3 player team, I think a team of 4-8 players would find it pleasant and challenging without feeling too overwhelmed or puzzleless depending on how they team up or split up. Overall our group had a great time at Exodus and were glad we were able to make the drive to experience these rooms back to back. We have previously completed Ink and Ashes and Olympus at other locations and annot wait to visit their Anaheim Hills location again to complete the last two rooms they currently have available. Villains Vendetta

This was the first of 3 rooms our group of 6 did at this location on the same day and by far the one we found the most challenging. Our GM, Rebecca, was amazing and took great care of us both in and out of the room. We couldn't have asked for a better GM to help us enjoy our night at Exodus. The room itself was so hectic yet super enjoyable and it kept us on our mental toes until the very end! We almost didn't finish this room in time because there was so much to do and so many unique puzzles we had never seen before. We found it to be the hardest of the three we did by a fair margin not only because it was more of a collecting game than an escaping game, but also because of the amount of attention to detail you had to have to spot some of the clues or solutions. For context, we did Villains, Inside Job, and KnightFall, in that order. I would definitely say to bring a larger group for this room as there is plenty to keep everyone busy but likely limit it to between 6-8 players as some spaces can get a bit crowded if too many are there at the same time. An experienced group of 4 can also complete this room but be sure to rotate the puzzles you are working on if you hit a wall as some puzzles make more sense to some than others. Overall our group had a great time at Exodus and were glad we were able to make the drive to experience these rooms back to back. We have previously completed Ink and Ashes and Olympus at other locations and annot wait to visit their Anaheim Hills location again to complete the last two rooms they currently have available. I would happily recommend both this company and our awesome GM to anyone looking to have a fun time with an escape room.

Murder in the Woods

I really liked the layout and atmosphere of this room and loved our GM Ezra, but the puzzles in the room itself left quite a bit to be desired. Certain puzzles just didn't make sense and there were so many things that we realized were just red herrings meant to take up our time if we focused on them. While I am all for the occasional red herring and challenging puzzles, I don't think there should be so many that experienced teams can't get through the room without multiple hints. The puzzles themselves aren't overly complicated but relied heavily on you looking at the correct things in a large group of distractors. Hearing that the room only had a 40% pass rate overall made me wonder how many teams they had escape without any hints at all. Overall, the room has great potential but it would definitely benefit from some tweaking after running a few groups through without any hints to see where they get caught up.

By far one of my all time favorite escape rooms! Everything from the way the experience is designed, to the smoothness of the puzzles, to the occasional narrators was perfect and I can understand why this game is so highly rated. It is not only unique but well executed to the point where I honestly couldn't find a single thing to improve. Even our GM, Dante, and the rest of the staff were awesome and accommodating throughout our entire experience. My team, which consists of 3 fairly experienced players with 20-25 rooms each under their belts, completed this game with just over 6 minutes left. Despite this, we never felt panicked or pressured and thoroughly enjoyed our time here while only needing 1 hint due to missing a visual cue. The way this game is designed definitely makes it harder for smaller groups, but not impossible, and makes it so larger groups can get multiple players busy with the sheer number of puzzles. Overall, I would definitely recommend this room to experienced enthusiasts with teams as small as 3 but would only recommend to newer players if they have a larger group to share the burden of all the puzzles.

Winnie The Pooh

Our group, which consisted of 2 adults and a 10 year old who have all done 20+ escape rooms, loved this room and not only because of the theme! We managed it with no hints and finished the story with a good 23 minutes to spare. Don't let our quick time fool you. Despite being an experience based off of the beloved Winnie the Pooh, this game had a surprisingly enjoyable number of tricky puzzles that kept us all entertained and busy. It was honestly a great mix of story and puzzle as you are essentially working your way through a narration without being outright guided to the answers. This was refreshingly different as it allowed us to puzzle out the next steps and rewarded us with the story as opposed to just giving us narrative instructions. This set up also made it possible to enjoy the amount of work and detail that went into the room and allowed our little one to solve multiple puzzles on her own while still leaving challenging ones around for the adults. Be warned, there is a part that involves a fair amount of reading so be prepared to either slowly read everything aloud or have a speed reader handy to solve the related puzzles. Overall, definitely recommend this room for both experienced and new players alike as it is quite enjoyable and will bring a smile to anyone who is even remotely familiar with Ol' Pooh Bear.

We hadn't expected this room to be as tricky or enjoyable as it was and were pleasantly surprised by it! Conspiracy does a great job at utilizing technology and codebreaking to really test escape room enthusiasts. Our group consisted of 2 adults and a 10 year old who have each done 20+ escape rooms. We were able to complete this room with just over 15 minutes remaining and 1 hint. We initially struggled due to the lack of traditional elements but quickly fell into a groove once we understood how the codebreaking and technology played in the room. This made for a unique experience that vastly differed from most rooms that rely on riddles or lock and key puzzles. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend this for less experienced players or those who can't figure out technology well as this was definitely a challenge that tested players' ability to connect the dots, recognize patterns, and be observant to the little details stashed around the room. Extremely enjoyable and rewarding for those who love a challenge. The awesome staff at MindTrap only adds to the experience as you can be sure that your GM will let you play exactly as your team desires with as many or as few hints as you want.

This is a great beginner room that does an excellent job at introducing new players to escape rooms and what to look for in the puzzles, especially for more techy rooms. Our group consisted of two adults and a 10 year old who have each done 20+ rooms and we were able to complete this room with just about 16 minutes left and no hints. While we were aware that this was a beginner mini room, we enjoyed doing it as it was a good cool down after the 3 escape rooms we had done before it on the same day and we like having beginner rooms to recommend to friends who want to get into escape rooms. This roo. would also be a good warm up for anyone who wants to get their brain moving. This was a single room experience and the puzzles were easy without being kindergarten level simple. It is a bit sparse but makes great use of the small space without making it feel crowded or overwhelming. I will say the one thing that delayed us was the fact that we didn't quite look everywhere in the room for a certain clue, which gave us a prompt reminder that clues can also be hidden well above our heads when we finally noticed it. This is a lesson not often taught by beginning rooms and one we were most amused to be reminded of. Definitely a good warm-up, cool down, or intro room but it can be boring for experienced players who are looking for a heavier challenge.

The Depths

The Escape Game - Gaslamp

For those who want to know the difficulty order of the 3 lowest level difficulty rooms at this location, we view Gold Rush as the easiest, Timeliner comfortably in the middle, and The Depths as the hardest of the level 7 difficulty rooms. Aa advertised, Special Operations: Mysterious Market is even harder and Prison Break is the hardest at this location. Keep in mind that how you react to tech puzzles versus mechanical or traditional lock and key puzzles will impact how you perceive these difficulties. While Gold Rush and Special Ops are more mechanical/traditional, Timeliner and The Depths are extremely techy and require more interaction, observation, and thought. The Depths was my husband and I's second escape room at The Escape Game and we did it back to back directly after completing Timeliner. I highly recommend doing this when possible as you get a 40% discount when you book a room on the same day. We were warned before starting it that while it shared a difficulty level with Timeliner and Gold Rush, The Depths was definitely harder and we couldn't agree more with that statement. While we barely escaped with just over 2 minutes left and having utilized 2 hints, we really enjoyed the experience and were laughing throughout the majority of it at how novel some of the puzzles and activities were. There are several times where you have to be highly observant and once or twice where the puzzle wasn't overly intuitive but a gentle nudge from the GM easily clues you in on the situation without straight out spoiling it. Our GM, CJ, was really good at providing solid hints or nudges without answering the puzzle. Teamwork is an integral for this experience and it is clearly incorporated or required in most of the puzzles. This is especislly true for the end of the experience and I advise you to have a group that communicates and works together well. Overall, this is a really fun and novel room that heavily uses tech and teamwork. Great for experienced players and even some larger groups of less experienced players. Don't be afraid to ask for hints!

Timeliner: Train Through Time

This was my husband and I's first time playing a room at The Escape Game and it did not disappoint! This escape room was quirky, full of character, and legitimately fun! You also get a personalized prop that you keep as a souvenir whether you escape or not. This room is easily doable with 2 people but I don't recommend it for complete beginners as it has some unique and cleverly difficult puzzles that might stump newcomers. My husband and I have each done about 20 escape rooms and opted to do this one with just the two of us as it is ranked amongst the easiest at this location. We escaped with about 18 minutes to spare and had a blast the entire time. We used 2 hints as we did hit a couple of points where we couldn't see how to proceed but our GM, CJ, was quick, attentive, and a wiz at providing solid clues. Overall, this room is a great intro to this company for escape room enthusiasts and has several time travel easter eggs from various movies and tv shows that are fun to catch. At the end of the room, CJ pointed out the ones we had missed, further adding to our amusement and love of this room. Can't wait to do the rest! For those who want to do the rooms in order of difficulty, we would rank this experience as harder than Gold Rush but easier than The Depths.

BeWitched

This room was so much fun but was definitely more of an experience than an escape room. The live actor is an utter blast and really pushes you to get silly in order to advance. The use of the live actor to nudge you along and give you the story is enjoyable and the overall feel and decor of the room is awesome! My group of 3 did take the full hour and some change to complete this room but that was alright because we were more focused on the banter and having fun rather than escaping. That being said, I wouldn't recommend this for those who prefer heavier puzzled rooms or an experience where you can focus on escaping as this is very story driven and there are points where the live actor will hold you back if you don't satisfy their instructions. Definitely go into this experience with people who have a good sense of humor and be ready to shed your shyness since you will be asked to sing, dance, yell, and make up spells or rhymes on the fly. By far one of my favorite story driven rooms and one I recommend anyone do on the "The Dark Side" or rated R setting.

DaVinci Challenge

This was our 4th room at Lara's and definitely the one that had the most puzzles out of the lot. Our group of 3 got through this room in 45 minutes with a couple of nudges whenever we became too focused on a puzzle we didn't have all the pieces for. The GM was great at redirecting us without giving us the answers. Unlike the other rooms at Lara's, this room focuses heavily on puzzle solving and is best enjoyed if you have any knowledge on DaVinci and his creations or history. It is also important to note that this experience does have a split start so don't bring someone who is entirely new to escape rooms without providing them at leave another person they can be paired with. Overall, I would recommend this for those who simply love puzzles and DaVinci's history as it does present you with numerous unique and clever puzzles. I do not recommend this if you were expecting someone like Cannibal or BeWitched. Compared to those rooms, this one is far less story driven or emotionally enticing as the point is to test your puzzle solving mettle. Truly does a great job of doing so too!
