Hope End
The Ministry Of Peculiarities
Escape room
IRL
The most perfect blend of immersive theatre and escape room games, Hope End at The Ministry of Peculiarities is one of the most unique, well-crafted, and fun games I’ve ever played. The staff and actors were fantastic, and my entire group enjoyed the experience, comparing notes for 10 minutes after the game ended. I can’t wait to see what they build next!
Distrito 111 [District 111]
Unreal Room Escape Sant Martí – Barcelona
Escape room
IRL
District 111 is a very large and mechanical escape room just outside of Barcelona. The set is probably the greatest element of the game as it is feels incredibly realistic and is full of surprises. Our game master gave us just the right amount of hints so that we could still have a challenge but complete the game before time ran out. This is a must play if you’re in Barcelona!
The 13th Basement
The Exit Game - Anaheim
Escape room
IRL
The Weeping Witch
Cross Roads Escape Games
Escape room
IRL
The Weeping Witch is one of the best new escape rooms in Los Angeles. The level of craftsmanship that went into building the special effects is on the same level as something Disney Imagineering would produce. Despite being in a very small space, the game kept us on our toes and busy the entire time. I would not recommend playing with more than 4 players as you would not get to take part in all the puzzles. The scare effects were flawlessly executed and delivered just at the right moments. The room was the perfect level of scary, meaning we were not paralyzed in fear, but rather knew when the scary moments were coming and could brace ourselves for them. Special shout out to the clever use of a prop to deliver hints to players. It was incredibly inventive and very memorable.
The Cabin 2.0
New Mexico Escape Room - McLeod Location
Escape room
IRL
The Cabin 2.0 is one of the best non-actor horror games I’ve ever played. The story was reminiscent of something you experience over an entire season of Dexter, with twists, turns, and very developed storyline. It was fantastic and had a ton of scares. The mix of puzzles was very effective and our team didn’t want the game to end. I loved it! I’d highly recommend this game to anyone who likes horror games, but also a challenge.
The Keeper And The Fungus Among Us
Headlock Escape Rooms Online
Escape room
Virtual
The Keeper and the Fungus Among Us is one of the most unique games I've ever played, and takes full advantage of the Zoom medium to create a whimsical, fantastic escape room experience. I found the difficulty a bit too easy for my liking, but it was still a fun time! The entire build, both physically and technologically, is amazing.
The Steampunk Express
The Imaginarium: Playground for the Creative Mind
Escape room
IRL
One of the top best rooms I’ve played in Toronto. The set design, story, and difficulty level of the puzzles felt perfect. Our group divided and conquered and enjoyed the mix of tactile and electronic puzzles. The train is beautifully designed and immersive. I wish I could play it again for the first time. My group loved it.
The 13th Basement
The Exit Game - Anaheim
Escape room
IRL
I had been waiting to play the 13th Basement for many years and I’m so glad I did. It is a very unique game that plays on horror escape room tropes in a really cheeky way. I really enjoyed it and especially love that they designed this game and away that colourblind people can enjoy every puzzle. When colour was involved in a puzzle, they had a little note that indicated what colour the item was. There’s also a fantastic moment in the game that I will never forget. Bonus points to the props, which are beautifully made, and a lovely homage to the Saw franchise. I’m looking forward to the new games that they build at the Exit Game OC.
Blackwell Manor
New Mexico Escape Room - McLeod Location
Escape room
IRL
Blackwell Manor has some of the most beautiful sets I’ve ever seen in an escape room. The exterior facade plus the interior of the house are next level. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. The puzzles are good, not great. Some of the puzzles are things I’ve seen before. One puzzle is particularly frustrating but overall we enjoyed it.
Something's Out There!
Maze Rooms - West LA
Escape room
IRL
This is an awesome new game in Los Angeles for people who want a horror experience without the extreme nature of a room with live actors. The puzzles are very clever and it’s a fun time for 2 to 3 people. I would say this room is on the easier side, so don’t bring too big of a group if you are on the experienced side.
Escape Jumanji
Bust Out Escape Room - Paseo
Escape room
IRL
While not an officially licensed Jumanji game, Bust Out Escape Room’s Jumanji game is very true to the film, even referencing the character names and bringing various visual elements of the film into the room. This is a high spectacle room filled with magical technology, a whimsical custom soundtrack, and beautiful scenery to immerse you into the world of the game. We really enjoyed playing it even if it’s on the easier side.
