“this is my least favorite of the 3 MyssTics despite being their highest rated, but it’s such a high floor, dude. a little cramped w/ multiple ppl, and it’s a little inundating w/ info, but still a blast w/ some creative stuff. not a clean escape cuz we got one hide-and-seek hint to find a cypher, plus two unsolicited nudges that we were on a wrong puzzle & that we had already found a key without realizing yet, but given how much time we had left i really wish those weren’t handheld. firm believer that it’s our responsibility to comb thru everything then push thru the head-banging stuff, but all that time can still be well spent since we’re setting up dominos to fall fast later. tl;dr who cares, everyone needs to do all of these rooms”

“these folks don’t miss. this is a really cool, singular idea with a lot of magic. we had a buzzer-beater photo finish w/ 3 of us (1 who we just met that night), but we got 2 correction hints (for puzzles we understood but executed wrong), so it wasn’t clean, but i didn’t have the heart to tell our game master not to give unsolicited hints this time, so it wasn’t their fault.”

“I really loved this escape room for the nostalgia, interactiveness, and storyline. Compared to other escape rooms I’ve done, this one feels more immersive, and has a child like feel. Since I’ve done 70 escape rooms at this point, every puzzle felt similar to previous puzzles that I’ve done in the past, but for more novice players it will likely feel more unique/challenging. This room is also nice if you want to do it with a larger group. There’s a lot of room to move and it’s non-linear.”

“stellar. i’m v biased bc i love Stranger Things, but i think this is Mysstic’s best room, and it’s a Top 5 for me all time, currently Top 2, & i’ll save my next Superboost for it unless it gets beat within the month. we got one unsolicited instruction for the final button when we had a ton of time to spare, so that was mildly annoying, but they always mean well, and it didn’t detract. we only had 2 of us (and it was my sister’s first room EVER), but we BLEW thru Phase 1, got roadblocked in Phase 2 by one technical confusion, & Phase 3 had some really cool puzzles i’ve never seen before. all in all, an easy two-person escape clean 👍”

“Very elaborate, high-tech set. Sticks to the theme well. Puzzles make sense in the context of the story. Some neat physical elements to the set. I’m surprised this company isn’t more popular — it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the nyc area 5/5”

“I’ve played Beat the Bomb twice, and ended up covered in paint twice. It’s more frantic than a regular escape room, and I definitely recommend stretching beforehand, particularly if you are like me and your limbo game is weak.”

“I would definitely recommend this to others. It wasn’t my favorite theme, personally, but that’s just me not being a fan a creepy. It was very well done and not like many of the other rooms we’ve done. It wasn’t difficult but it was very fun!!”

“Incredibly fun and high tech room. You can definitely feel the time and money that went into the production value of this from The Escape Game co. The story, puzzle themeing, interactive objects, and overall pacing was fantastic! There are some high tech puzzles that require shouting and communication with your teammates that only adds to the fun and chaos of the room. Highly recommend!”

“Ryco knows how to make a room! The game play was very linear, I just think that it requires support because there’s just a lot of tasks to do some of which are time-consuming and physically necessary as opposed to mentally challenging. That design was beautiful and everything in the room is useful. There’s a point where you need to get back into the bed that the entry room is set into but you also previously stepped with your feet on so I didn’t love that but oh my goodness was the room cool. There is a slight creepiness in two of the rooms but no jump scares. Behind some of the doors you have a clown in a clown car, dolls on a shelf, and teddy bears plastered on the walls.”

“My first game in NY! Super surprised that Soul Escape does not have more attention and reviews on the platform because this game was amazing! Story was clean and intriguing, actors were incredible and puzzles were engaging and challenging! The scare factor of this room is pretty high given that there are live actors and a low light level throughout the experience. This is also a place where if an actor “catches you” you are out of the game, so do be ready to run when the time comes…and it will. Will have to make another trip out here whenever I am back in town!”

“This room had less enthusiastic ratings from friends who have done it before, but my low expectations were heavily exceeded. I liked the room because I am a science teacher, and I felt like I had many great "solves" in this room. This room probably has my favorite puzzles of the franchise so far. I was trying to figure out how to put the differences in words, and the best I can come up with is that it's more based on pattern observation than object manipulation. One of the top things that stood out about this room was that my friend and I could work concurrently on tasks, and we didn't get bottlenecked. The ending can be stressful with 2 people, but we made it work!”

Perhaps tired of playing second fiddle to their better known sister borough across the river, Brooklyn and Queens have exploded over the past two decades to emerge as hotbeds of culture, food, and all sorts of entertainment. New York is beautiful during Spring and Autumn and there’s perhaps no better place to enjoy it than Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. If you have a few little ones in your group, then the Brooklyn Children’s Museum may be for you. Or perhaps art is more your vibe, in which case the MoMA PS1 in Queens is worth a stop. Of course, if escape rooms are what really get you going, then you’ll be in heaven. When you’ve had a little too much fun and are ready for a bite, then consider yourself lucky to be in the pizza capital of the world, with renowned establishments like Lucali, Best Pizza, and Di Fara a short walk or drive away.
Not to be outdone by their neighbor across the river, escape rooms have found a home in Brooklyn and Queens. Since the first escape rooms arrived in New York City in 2016, the culture capital of the World hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, New York City is home to nearly 50 different escape room venues, and Brooklyn and Queens offer a particularly exciting array of escape room experiences that are suitable for all tastes. Myss Tic Room’s Ghost List is a hit with players, and was voted a 2021 TERPECA nominee. Komnata Quest’s Boxed Up is another popular game that is known for its creepy story that transports you to another world. With over 100 escape games in the entire area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
