Crazy Train: The Ballad of Skeemin' PlotzDoldrick's Escape RoomEscape roomIRLhands down my favorite that doldricks has put out. escape rooms are entering the next generation and crazy train leads the march into this exciting new threshold!
Mutiny: Skull IslandEscape Games at the RiverEscape roomIRLNo jars of dirt, but at least the rum isn’t gone. I love the pirate theme and have found myself let down so many times in the past by mediocre pirate games, but this one seriously delivered with a really solid scenic design and an exciting finale.
The Great Candy ChallengeEscape Games at the RiverEscape roomIRLmy friends made fun of me and called me old for my candy preferences but root beer barrels slap and i’m not gonna budge on that.
The Weeping WitchCross Roads Escape GamesEscape roomIRLThe Weeping Witch was my nickname in college. This is by far my favorite horror escape room, and it might have cracked my overall top 5 as well. So much in this room is right. I screamed, I laughed, and pretty much felt everything else in between. This is one of those things i’m going to wish I could do again for the first time, and i’ll be thinking about just how awesome this game is for a long time!
HeadcaseBreaking Point Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLAnother major slay from Breaking Point. Maybe it was the headcase(s) we made along the way!
At Odds With The GodsThe Escape EffectEscape roomIRLThis was a solid gen 1 room! Lots and lots and lots of tactile puzzles that had you moving lots of bits and pieces which we still enjoyed! I enjoyed the theme quite a lot, but wish the scenic and pieces of the puzzles could have been touched up just a bit. I still had fun at the end of the day!
The Nest [Immersive Theatre]Hatch EscapesEscape roomOther This was very very special. Go into this without any spoilers whatsoever, so you can best be immersed in this incredible experience. Definitely not scary, but be ready for an emotional journey…because I absolutely cried. I hope you love it as much as I did :)
Operation Arctic Storm: The Final MeltdownThe Escape Ventures - Orlando Waterford LakesEscape roomIRLEscape Ventures slays, that’s all they do! This game knocked it out of the park- it was an awesome experience from beginning to end and they always bring it with their top notch friendly staff. I really enjoyed interacting with the actor, and the puzzles were not too overly complicated but they were still interesting and helped bring cohesion to the environment while adding to the story of the room. TL;DR- Please play this room!
Escape JumanjiBust Out Escape Room - PaseoEscape roomIRLThis was an awesome experience! I loved all of the beats of the game itself. I enjoyed the natural progression of the room through “playing the game,” as it created a sense of urgency to finish before the time ran out. While some of the puzzles weren’t the strongest, the sheer amount of things to do within this room is pretty astounding. By far, the set design was my favorite part of this room. Really awesome use of special effects and room design to keep me constantly guessing what happened next! I With only three of us, we had to HUSTLE, divide, and conquer in order to get out, but for excellent communicators or a well seasoned team y’all should be just okay!
The Missing Season - CLOSEDSteal and EscapeEscape roomIRLEvery now and then, you encounter a game that goes a little beyond the threshold of what makes a really good game an incredible game, and The Missing Season absolutely exudes that special quality. The experience as a whole is wonderful. All five senses are utilized in this room, and they’re all taken on a journey. I kept finding myself getting excited with each new step as we progressed through this very carefully crafted experience. From the superb story beats, to the unique puzzles that utilized technology I haven’t seen before in escape rooms, to the excellent narration that reminded me of a cross between the Stanley Parable and Superliminal— Steal and Escape should not be slept on. This venue packs a HUGE punch, with some of the nicest and most wonderful customer service and game masters in the business. I can’t wait to come back and see what they have in store next.
The Secret At Whitmore EstateBreaking Point Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLGracey Manor walked so Whitmore Estate could fly.
The Spell Breakers - CLOSEDQuest Room - KoreatownEscape roomIRLI wanted to love this game coming into it, but i’m afraid calling it a “game” gives it a little more credit than it deserves. We played the regular version, Malediction, after hearing that the dark version of this game was just a little too over the top, and gets a little too personal for my liking. As fun as the interaction with the actor in this room can be- they cannot save this room on their own, and it’s unfair to put it entirely on them. It became a never ending game of give and take with the actor, only receiving items from them personally after doing something for them in return. I can count on one hand the amount of actual puzzles that we had to complete for this room. It sorta left me wanting more, and just not totally satisfied, which I’m not used to feeling with Quest Room. Sort of a bummer honestly.
Wrongfully ConvictedThe Escape RevolutionEscape roomIRLReally fun split start with tons of innovative gameplay and some exciting moments to boot! I had a really really fun time in this room and loved so many little touches that made this experience kinda magical. I had a blast!
The Mad RapperScenario Escape RoomEscape roomIRLI had a blast in this very creative and extremely thoughtful game. I’ve never played a game quite like Mad Rapper, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to anytime soon. With theming grounded in rap/music production, I loved all of the avenues that the puzzles explored. Special mention to the original soundtrack that kept me moving and head-bobbing the whole time. Lastly, I want to shoutout the wonderful people who ran our room, they made our experience very special. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Irvine School Of Wizardry And The Dragon WandHidden DonkeyEscape roomIRLReally fun and whimsical experience! I had a wonderful time being immersed in this really well dressed room. The effects were really exciting, and as a whole this experience felt really complete as well. Wizard rooms can be done so poorly or feel a little cringey, but this one feels unique enough with just a touch of familiarity to a certain unnamed wizard franchise without it crossing the line. I had such a good time!
13th BasementExit Game OC - AnaheimEscape roomIRL13th Basement falls into an exciting crossover of the horror and comedy genre and excels at both of them with flying colors. With a set that is wonderfully immersive, there is no piece that is just for show- you get to interact with each item they craft in order to progress with your game, and it made the horror fanatic in me absolutely giddy. This game was clearly built by people who love escape rooms, and I think it is a ton of fun for first timers and enthusiasts alike.
Magic KingdomMaze Rooms - VermontEscape roomIRLI had a really good time here overall! Although one of the now older Maze Room games still open, I found a lot of the game still fun and whimsical. That being said, some parts of the game seemed relatively faded and worn, as to be expected, but tech we utilized pertaining to the game worked exactly as expected.
Jack The RipperMaze Rooms - Culver CityEscape roomIRLThe only thing Jack the Ripper killed today was my vibe. A bit of a disappointment truthfully. With lackluster puzzles that sort of slightly related to the theme, we constantly kept asking ourselves, okay but why are we doing what we’re doing. I can’t help but retort the almost overused and overly sardonic, “because, escape room.”
Stash HouseStash HouseEscape roomIRLOverall a very strong experience from beginning to end. I loved exploring every last nook of this apartment that kept surprising us in new ways. Although I was worried it might not live up to the hype I’ve heard throughout the years, I was so excited and beyond stoked to have that fear waved away rather quickly. Definitely bring a solid group, or if you’re a newer team it might be good to have a larger group come along- there’s a LOT of game to explore here 🚽
