Viking’s Hammer – RagnarökKey and Code Escape Rooms - SparksEscape roomIRLDefinitely top 3 rooms in Reno. Labyrinth brought this game over from their Boise Location, where it was one of their best, and it’s been brought over quite faithfully. It’s one of the best sets in the area, some of the best puzzles, just an outstanding game. What an honor to meet the designer; Jenkins, and chat escape rooms with him. I highly highly recommend this game.
The RelicRed Door Escape Room - Las VegasEscape roomIRLAfter the 5 of us crushed Enchantment, we decided to break up 2 and 3 for this game, so that it lasted longer, especially after our GM told us Relic was even easier than enchantment. This room is actually fairly tough for 2 people, there’s a lot to collect and a lot to do, without it ever being super clear what goes where. I would argue this was tougher than enchantment but it might just be because of the player count discrepancy. The room features a good set, and some decent puzzles. As well as a very fun gimmick of appeasing the relic so it doesn’t eat your time away. All in all, a good room!
EnchantmentRed Door Escape Room - Las VegasEscape roomIRLIf this room was longer it may have actually gotten a heart. This is a very non linear room, almost everything is available for the very start. The set is actually quite good for a chain such as red door. Some fun puzzles in this too, and one I’ve definitely never seen before, so, props for that. However, we did the entire game in under 22 minutes…that’s a problem, this used to be a 45 minute game, and recently they made it a 60 minute game…by, putting an additional 15 mins on the clock, nothing else, and this game as it stands is not even a 45 minute game, let alone a 60 minute one.
Dr. FrankensteinMonster Quest Escape RoomEscape roomIRLFrankenstein is definitely better than mummy, the game flows better, the set is better, and the theatrics are more consistent. There’s still some weird things about the game, but it is a significant improvement over their other game. There were some electrical issues with this game that the GM assured us was a one off because they had people working on their roof that morning, in combination with the high winds and rain. It did detract from the experience a little but they handled it quickly, and was largely out of their control. All in all, a decent room, still nothing amazing, but not bad
Curse of the MummyMonster Quest Escape RoomEscape roomIRLThis was a real mixed bag, the first few rooms were pretty meh set wise, while the last was actually good. The puzzles weren’t sign posted well, and it was never clear if it was a linear room or a non linear room, I don’t know if we were just off our game but we struggled HARD with this game. The GM and owner are really cool people, and I liked the tied in hint system, but there were still a lot I didn’t like about this game. Notably all the chipboard panels of the same size being used all over the walls of the tomb, it’s lazy, it’s ugly and it’s rushed. All in all, not a bad game for Vegas, but not a great room in general.
Vendetta 15 [prev. Villains Vendetta]Exodus Escape Room - Anaheim Hills, CAEscape roomIRLThis was a really cute game, and a straight up puzzle fest. There were 15 toys that needed to be rescued with at least one puzzle per toy. The unique twist other than the completely unique theme is you could stop your timer at any point when you think you can’t save any more toys, so, newer players can actually still “win” even if they only save like 10 toys. As a group of two we managed to save all 15, and had a lot of fun doing it, I highly recommend this game!
Cosmic CrisisThe Escape Game - OrangeEscape roomIRLAfter doing all of the other readily available rooms from the Escape Game, we were able to play Cosmic Crisis, and despite the fact that the ratings haven’t been stellar for it; especially other The Escape Game locations the game was really good. Great set as always, and some really fun, incredibly thematic puzzles in a nice non linear space. Even though we never really used him, I also liked the clue system a lot, and having to make that tough final decision is a really neat thing from The Escape Game!
Olympus - CLOSEDExodus Escape Room - Anaheim Hills, CAEscape roomIRLI was very pleasantly surprised with Olympus! I love all things mythology, so, I knew I was gonna love the theme, but wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of set and puzzles, and both of them delivered quite well! The set was very well done, and I liked how each space was a different theme. The puzzles were also quite creative and some of them, surprisingly difficult.
Irvine School of Wizardry and the Goblin's SecretsHidden DonkeyEscape roomIRLOMG, this game is incredible, amazing, phenomenal, magical, etc… The set design is beautiful, it’s the level of detail that you’d see in a Disney or universal queue/ride. We finished and just wanted to spend more time in the room just looking at everything and admiring the craftsmanship in the room. The puzzles aren’t to be ignored either, there were some seriously clever puzzles here, some stuff we’ve never seen before, and even stuff we had, they made large in theme versions of locks instead of using standard ones. One little thing I don’t love, is they’re going to be putting a second “game” in this room, by labeling things with red or green banners/stickers. I feel this really detracts from the immersion of the game, so, that is one tiny knock. But everything else about this game is stellar, it has jumped its way into my top 5 immediately, and I think stands as the best game in SoCal as of right now.
Ink & AshesExodus Escape RoomEscape roomIRLInk and Ashes is a really good story driven game that combines linear and non linear elements. The room has a good set, and some really great puzzles. I also really appreciate how they handle the story parts, freezing your timer, dimming lights, and locking away puzzles, so that you can enjoy both separately.
Jewel of the SeaIntrepid Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLJewel of the sea is a great pirate room, it absolutely makes the most of its fairly small space, featuring some really creative puzzles, some tough ones, and some humor. The set is beautiful, and the theatrics of the room were wonderful as well. This is definitely Intrepid’s best game, and is definitely one of the best games around SoCal
The Stolen RelicIntrepid Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLThe stolen relic was probably my least favorite of Intrepid’s games, it wasn’t bad, it just didn’t do anything to blow me away, the set was good, and so were puzzles, just nothing super exciting about this game for me.
The Haunted TerminalIntrepid Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLI think the Morty score sells this one short, this game is actually really fun. It’s a fairly linear, fairly simple game, but it’s a lot of fun, it has some very unique and interesting puzzles. A very unique theme, and a really well done set. There is one puzzle that sucks, but everything else is actually really good about this game, if you’re going to intrepid to play Jewel of the Sea, make sure you do haunted terminal too!
Hope EndThe Ministry Of PeculiaritiesEscape roomIRLHope End is a phenomenal game and deserves all of the praise it gets, the actors do a phenomenal job bringing you into the story from the second you knock on the front door, and do not let you drop out of this story until the experience is completely over! The set design of the game was wonderful, and there were a lot of clever puzzles here. We played with 3 which is unusual for this game, as they really want you to have 4+ but they made some modifications for us which was nice. I see why they want you to have four though, there are quite a few puzzles, and some of them are pretty involved. There’s nothing I can say about the game that hasn’t already been said by hundreds of people. Go play this!
The Last SupperQuest TavernEscape roomIRLThis game was super divisive among our group, and it may be amongst your group too, this game is more improv (audience participation) theatre than escape room. Of the 60 minutes we spent in the game, I’d say we only spent about 25-30 minutes solving puzzles, some of which had highly dysfunctional locks. The other 30-35 minutes were spent interacting with the actor who had us sort of act alongside him, with a decent amount of improv. Ideally bouncing back and forth off of the actor. As someone who plays a lot of D&D, and is good at improv, and accents and all of that, I loved this room, it was like an IRL dnd session, the rest of my group was either on the fence or downright unhappy with this fact, so just keep it in mind. P.S. Milo is a very good boy
The Bridge BetweenQuest TavernEscape roomIRLThis game had so much potential, and I think the Morty reviews kinda built it up too much for me…I don’t know why, but this game kinda pissed me off, between locks not working, and just what felt like a lack of a super coherent flow, this room just didn’t hit the same with me as I think it should have. The set was very well done, the interaction with the hint system was fun, there were some creative puzzles, and I think it still deserves a heart, it is a good room. I just personally didn’t have the best time in the game.
The Secret At Whitmore EstateBreaking Point Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLSecret at Whitmore estate was a great gen 2.5 ish room. It was a great mix of standard escape room with some newer stuff too. Really nice haunted mansion/clue esc set design, some good puzzles, and a fun finale. Unfortunately one audio cue didn’t work which made us waste about 10 minutes, and the GM denied it happening, but otherwise a great game if you’re in the area.
Witch's CauldronQuest TavernEscape roomIRLWitch’s Cauldron is a fine little game, it’s a very standard escape room, there’s definitely still some nice lighting and atmosphere, and a nice split start. But, this game is starting to show its age, especially when compared to Quest Tavern’s other games. It’s not bad, but it’s not Last Supper or Bridge Between.
The Crystal CaveBreaking Point Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLCrystal cave has a beautiful set, and a very fun storyline. There’s quite a few puzzles in here, and there’s some really good ones too! This game is definitely worth your time.
Treasure IslandBrain Games Escape RoomEscape roomIRLThis game is very well done. Each individual space in the game is perfectly in theme and super well put together. Puzzles were good, and tough at that. There’s a lot to do in this room, so, be prepared. The set design was fantastic, and all of the little Easter eggs and references to other pop culture icons were super fun!
