You and your friends decide to visit the cabin of Emily Carter, a young writer whose bestseller adventure novels are known all around the world..

“This is fairly linear in a way that two people can solve it without feeling frustration that one of you isn't a good fit for certain puzzles, but nonlinear in the sense that you can split up and look for different clues or complete solves independently as well. All puzzles are simple enough that a wide range of demographics will feel comfortable; nothing requires advanced knowledge or skill. It's still challenging enough for more advanced groups to have a good time because the environment is so engaging and fun. Those really keen on the stories behind the solves will probably find this a great room because it's truly a story itself. I'm almost never interested in the story and find them to be irrelevant, but not this time. 10/10 don't miss it. As a couple we would recommend for groups of 2-3.”

Being framed for things going wrong in a museum isnt in your plans for a day out. Use your wits to solve the mystery and clear your name!

“One of the best museum gallery rooms I’ve ever done! The puzzles are stellar, and hit that on so sweet perfect spot melding logic, wordplay, and pictures. The puzzles towards the end absolutely surprised and delighted us! We experienced something using unlikely props that we had never seen any other room brave enough to accomplish. But this museum delivers it artfully. I would even go to say that the puzzles… ARE ART!”

You have been invited to the study of a famous magicians study to find any secrets you can, but on a timer. You have an hour to find what you can and get out.

“Magical room! But not as magical as the other two rooms at the excellent place known as Boxaroo. I enjoyed most of the puzzles, though there was one annoying dim hunt, and one somewhat decoy puzzle that taunted us until we realized we needed to do something else first. The final puzzle was pretty fun, though it felt fast. I would recommend the other two rooms here first. But if you’ve done them too, then third time’s a charm at Boxaroo!”

For years there have been rumors of a shadow girl scout troop operating in the Boston and Cambridge area. Over the last week, you’ve been earning your Automotive Engineering badges in the local auto body shop. Little did you know that the auto garage is owned by the high council of this shadow troop, and they have been covertly watching you. They have hand-picked you and your team to have the chance to join their secret society, and last night, each of you received a rare invitation to meet there today. You will have one hour to prove to them you have what it takes to earn the ultimate girl scout badge, and a coveted place in their troop.

“I’m so glad we decided to book this room. This turned out to be the highlight of our day in Boston and I wish we had done all of the rooms at this location. It’s very clear a lot of thought, care, and craftsmanship went into this room.”

“I don’t normally enjoy submarine rooms as much, but son of a submariner, I had a lot of fun in this one! The immersive impressive set was a major factor, as were the puzzles. The room gets very hard, and our smaller group of 2 only had 11 seconds to spare before sinking to our doom! If U want a good boat escape, U-Boat is for U!”

The puzzles made sense, were logical, and utilized the art works well! All the rooms at the Boston Red Fox are great and are highly recommended!”

What exactly is a Quest? Probably the most exhilarating experience you’re going to have outside of your home with a group of people! OK, we know that didn’t answer your question exactly, but still it’s true. Complicated to explain; you need to just experience it! Go to the “What is Questing” section of this site for more info. It’s like nothing you’ve ever done in your entire life, and there’s literally nothing to compare it to, so it’s hard to explain. It’s somewhat like you, along with a small team, trying to do the types of things Indiana Jones or Laura Croft might do in a movie…except it’s real. The best way, by far, is to go do it. After that, we’ll let you try and explain it. Here’s what Questing is not: it’s not an Escape Room of any type, it’s not virtual reality or augmented reality, or anything that gives digital environments, it’s not anything to do with using a computer to play games, it’s not obstacle course racing, it’s not anything athletic or competitive, and it’s not anything that requires a certain level of education.

“Fun and engaging bite sized “escape” rooms! Enjoyed much better than the likes of Level 99, less crowds and plenty of time to redo rooms after failure. A plethora of experiences with very doable physical challenges (from the rooms I visited). Heavily recommend: The Farm, Area 51, Lava, Alcatraz.”

You wake up and find yourself in a bit of a predicament. With no prior skills whatsoever, you have the opportunity of a lifetime to pull off the most perfect heist the town of Merrimack has ever seen. You must assemble a team with marauding moxie and plan out every aspect of the heist, down to the very last detail. But time waits for no thief- you have only 75 minutes to impress the Boss with your caper capabilities before he cuts you out of the deal, ostensibly ending your burgeoning burglary business.

“Boxaroo's IRL escape rooms are all brilliant, yet they're even more fully able to show off their epic puzzle design (and fabrication!) chops in their tabletop/ballroom games. The Perfect Heist was so exquisitely designed, satisfyingly tactile, and full of quirky humor. Very highly recommend!”

The Hot Dog Bandits are at it again! Do you have what it takes to break into Furter National Bank and steal the Golden Weenie?

“This room could have just been a typical bank heist, and it would have been pretty good, but Hot Dog Heist elevates everything with its strange humorous premise and ridiculous macguffins like the golden weenie! This room isn’t afraid to inject something special to make it super memorable and against the grain. And it deserves lots of weenie points for it! The effort put into the room makes it far from the bratwurst heist room. I had so much fun! However, it would have been better if private rooms were the norm and not a big upcharge. We had a public room, and it was an ok experience, but it would have been better without strangers. That said, it did help to have an extra pair to tackle the many tasks. Another downside is ALL THE BACK AND FORTH CRAWLING… It’s pretty much mandatory because of the room’s design. Still enjoyed the room, but ouch for our wee knees. I love weenies!”

Many consider Prison Break our most difficult escape room. Players are split into two different prison cells and must work together to get out of a 1950s style prison. A successful escape will include a sneaky trip to the warden’s office. An unsuccessful escape will land you in prison forever. Yes, those are real prison toilets….what can we say? We are obsessed with creating realistic environments.

“Great themed escape room with a high communication puzzle and a variety of puzzles to last you through your hour long multi room experience. One of the better themed experiences I've done and Great staff to boot. Had a great time with my group with a ton of prison jokes”

Uncover the Lab's Secrets Are you brave enough to dive into the depths of the ocean to investigate an abandoned laboratory? Well, you’ll have to be in this escape room! The brilliant researcher, Dr. Humphreys, has gone missing and there have been rumors of mysterious experiments since his disappearance. It’s up to you to navigate your submarine to the lab, decipher Humphreys’ research, and discover what he’s been hiding deep in the ocean. Just be careful…you’re not alone in these waters…

“I was surprised to go into one of The Escape Game rooms and find broken equipment and puzzle pieces so soon after opening. At first glance, everything was amazing and looked sleek and high tech but as we started to play we noticed that several of the puzzle pieces were chipped and one had been broken and poorly glued back together. The scanner that allowed you to read what was on the cards was broken and we had to manipulate and maneuver the pieces to try to figure out the hidden imagine. Once we overcame those two hurdles everything else became what we had to come to expect. The remaining set pieces and rooms were amazing! The puzzles were all strong and kept us hopping from beginning to end. The finale of the room was fun as we maneuvered the sub through the final obstacles. Great room and I am sure they will fix the two minor issues we had in the beginning. Also, these rooms are very linear and I think you have a better time with a smaller group.”

“Very unique escape experience! You get to experience a faux wedding reception with live actors playing the role of a wedding party. It plays out like a somewhat normal albeit strange reception complete with actual wedding food. Then you get to do puzzles and it gets wild! You and your table get to interact with the actors and environment in fun ways. There are also full acted scenes and a finale that depends on your performance! Highly recommend for a fun night, although it is very limited so by the time you read this, it may be unfortunately over. We actually got to go this event on the same day as our actual friend’s wedding that we were in town for so we were already dressed for the occasion! It was a fun double wedding day for us!”

“I don’t think I’ve played a game that so successfully accomplished what they were aiming for. First and foremost, this game is made to be educational. It’s not difficult by any means, it’s not crazy immersive or challenging, it’s simple and fun. No background music, which makes it a little awkward, but the puzzles all make sense and are well done, and there’s not any hiccups in the game flow. Simply put, if you come into this game with the right expectations, knowing that it’s not challenging at all and made to educate people about financial topics in an entertaining way, it’s quite a fun experience, and free, which is a nice bonus. If that doesn’t sound very appealing, this just isn’t the game for you, and that’s okay!”

Learn More About Boston Escape Rooms

In recent years, Boston has come alive as a true escape room destination. In fact, Boston is home to nearly 50 different escape room venues and Boston offers a particularly exciting array of escape room experiences that are suitable for all tastes. Storyteller's Secret at Boxaroo is an award winning room that is sure to delight. Red Fox Escape's The Body Shop is another hit that is known for its beautiful set and immersive story. With over 100 escape games in the entire area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
