The de Lille family owned the Bird Apothecary for generations. Well-known for their magic and crafting talents, visitors came from afar to seek advice and magical remedies for all ailments. The apothecary was named after the family’s cherished bird, which they had miraculously kept alive for generations using their magic. In fact, the entire village thrived on the apothecary’s success and reputation—until the bird tragically passed away. Johann de Lille, the family’s youngest descendant and a brilliant alchemist, had been working on an elixir of rebirth—but he failed to finish it in time to save the bird. The de Lille family has since moved on, but it appears some magic still lingers in the abandoned pharmacy. Could this lingering magic be harnessed one final time? Maybe all hope is not yet lost.

“This was a beautiful experience. I absolutely loved how the gameplay and set interacted, especially with how the designers blended analog and tech perfectly. It’s honestly almost comparable to The Alchemist in the way it manages such a beautiful way of capturing the dual nature of mechanical and magical. It’s a challenging game, and the space is small, but if you have a cooperative team or if you can solve well this will be doable. MyssTic is absolutely a company that you must visit, and The Bird is their finest experience.”

“What an absolutely delightful room! I ran this room solo during a long layover back from my trip to Athens, and it was nice seeing a very well executed 60 minute room after experiencing some of the best long running escape rooms on my trip. The GM was fantastic, puzzles were satisfying to solve with a few having really good layers of connection making for a more complex solve.”

YOUR MISSION: Infiltrate the area, locate the source of the mysterious incidents and bring back hard evidence.

“I’ve played a few stranger things themed rooms, but none of them blended the quality of gameplay and story on display in Montauk Project. It played well, too - the flow was traditional but every puzzle was clever and tactile. When tasks were contributing to our quest, however, they were especially engaging, coupled with a finale that was a true wow moment. If you’re in the area, stop by and play Montauk Project - especially if you’re a stranger things fan. Nothing else is quite as good at capturing the feeling of the show.”

“I REALLY loved this room. It is now up there with one of my favorite escape rooms from this company. There are many different types of puzzles which plays to different strengths in a group. This room has A LOT of puzzles, making it ideal for a bigger group and allowing people to split off to solve the puzzles most interesting to them. There were lots of fun and exciting moments.”

The story, puzzle themeing, interactive objects, and overall pacing was fantastic! There are some high tech puzzles that require shouting and communication with your teammates that only adds to the fun and chaos of the room. Highly recommend!”

“A fantastic room as I've come to expect from The Escape Game. I played this with more people than I usually do (played with 6), many of whom had never done an escape room. It went very well and provided a good challenge for both new and experinced players alike. The atmosphere, as always was incredible and the probs and mechanisms showed very little wear and tear. Overall, a fantastic experience.”

“This room had less enthusiastic ratings from friends who have done it before, but my low expectations were heavily exceeded. I liked the room because I am a science teacher, and I felt like I had many great "solves" in this room. This room probably has my favorite puzzles of the franchise so far. I was trying to figure out how to put the differences in words, and the best I can come up with is that it's more based on pattern observation than object manipulation. One of the top things that stood out about this room was that my friend and I could work concurrently on tasks, and we didn't get bottlenecked. The ending can be stressful with 2 people, but we made it work!”

You burst through the door to find Olivia in tears saying that a monster has taken her favorite toy. She won’t stop crying and threatens to tell your parents that you did a terrible job. Where could it be? You can’t find it anywhere, and she never left the room. Your parents are going to kill you if Olivia is still awake when they get home! Find her favorite toy before they return or risk losing your parents trust for good!

“Ryco knows how to make a room! The game play was very linear, I just think that it requires support because there’s just a lot of tasks to do some of which are time-consuming and physically necessary as opposed to mentally challenging. That design was beautiful and everything in the room is useful. There’s a point where you need to get back into the bed that the entry room is set into but you also previously stepped with your feet on so I didn’t love that but oh my goodness was the room cool. There is a slight creepiness in two of the rooms but no jump scares. Behind some of the doors you have a clown in a clown car, dolls on a shelf, and teddy bears plastered on the walls.”

Many dark sides of the world are unknown to ordinary people, such as this clinic hidden underground in the city. Though long forgotten, it has been transformed into a death factory where organs are harvested and sold—a hub for human organ trafficking, a place where countless people died tragically. You and your teammates will play a group of students who graduated from a third-rate medical university and came here because they couldn't find a job. Today is your first day at work, but it has become the last day of your life. Horror is coming. Who can escape here alive?

“My first game in NY! Super surprised that Soul Escape does not have more attention and reviews on the platform because this game was amazing! Story was clean and intriguing, actors were incredible and puzzles were engaging and challenging! The scare factor of this room is pretty high given that there are live actors and a low light level throughout the experience. This is also a place where if an actor “catches you” you are out of the game, so do be ready to run when the time comes…and it will. Will have to make another trip out here whenever I am back in town!”

Learn More About Brooklyn & Queens Escape Rooms

Not to be outdone by their neighbor across the river, escape rooms have found a home in Brooklyn and Queens. Since the first escape rooms arrived in New York City in 2016, the culture capital of the World hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, New York City is home to nearly 50 different escape room venues, and Brooklyn and Queens offer a particularly exciting array of escape room experiences that are suitable for all tastes. Myss Tic Room’s Ghost List is a hit with players, and was voted a 2021 TERPECA nominee. Komnata Quest’s Boxed Up is another popular game that is known for its creepy story that transports you to another world. With over 100 escape games in the entire area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
