The Weeping Witch is a spirit that lures people close by mimicking the sound of a woman crying. When people hear its wails, they follow the sound into the darkness, thinking someone needs help. Once they get close enough, the Witch attacks and slowly sucks the life out of its victims. If you choose to enter Madam Ruby’s study, that is what is awaiting you. Will you be able to banish the evil spirit and end your family curse before the Weeping Witch consumes you too?

“The ambiance, props, story, mirrors, smoke, table… everything amazing, but HER! I don’t get scared easily, she was freaking real! Play it if you want to immerse yourself into an unreal room …trapped with her. Would I do it again? Yes. Did it set my bar as “is your live actor as scary as that witch?” for the next rooms? Absolutely yes.”

Can you survive a horror film? This murderous horror movie fan wants to watch you try. Each player will take a quiz before the game to determine which character they are: The Nerd, Virgin, Jock, Rebel, Prom Queen, or Detective. Your team will be divided into separate rooms where you must work individually and as a team. Not only do you need to escape, but you must also survive! Who will live? Who will die?

“Split start game, after you take a personality test the GM picks your character based on answers. Some characters rooms are easier to escape than others. Feels like a solo escape room within a bigger room. Found this to be on the easy side. You can get stuck inside your room while the others are out.”

Come one, come all! Step right up and see if you have what it takes to become a magnificent magician! In this room filled with trickery and illusions, you and your team will be put to the test. Work to beat the clock as you search for clues and solve mind-boggling puzzles in a topsy-turvy experience of a lifetime! Now all you need to do is ask yourself, do you have the wits of a magician? Or are you as clueless as a clown?

“Very fun game! We didn’t ask for many hints, but our GM Mina was in character throughout and enthusiastic and helped to make it an unforgettable experience for us. Children friendly, not scary, wacky, lots of cool props and locks left and right. This room was pretty puzzle/lock heavy and would be a bit difficult for younger children, but I’m aware that they have a kids version (that we did NOT play), but the option is there which is very cool!”

Do serial killers have hobbies? Of course, they do! This one is obsessed with Escape Rooms, so he built his own. You only have 60 minutes to get out if you want to survive. Can you solve the puzzles created by this psychotic Escape Room enthusiast?

“This was the perfect game to end our vacation on. From the moment we met Jeremiah we knew we were in for something very special. I very much appreciated the cleverness, the light humor and the thoughtfulness that went into the onboarding (wonderful video!) and continued through the entire game. It's better the less you know before going in, so I'm going to keep everything vague. You'll need to use inside and outside the box thinking for the puzzles, which are varied and for the most part super fun. Some auditory "jump scares" and also some gentle, quick, physical scares. Even for my insanely "scaredy cat" husband it was all enjoyable. Great decor and props, very substantial and "real world" feeling...it all felt great to play with, in and around. We can't wait to come back and play their other game, as well as the ones Jeremiah vouched for.”

Imagine waking up to find yourself curled up in a cozy corner, surrounded by a scratching post, litter box, and the fluffiest napping spot you've ever seen. You stretch, yawn, and—wait a second... this isn’t your home! You’ve somehow landed in a pet shop adoption cubby, and there’s a sign that says “AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.” Uh oh. You’re a cat, and you’re in the wrong place. Time to put your paws to work and get back to your real family! This is an easy game designed for younger players.

“We did with a 4 and an 11 year old, our little cats LOVED it! It’s fun for adults too, such a creatively designed room. The most (maybe the only?) child-friendly room around LA, definitely recommended to do with kids, I mean cats, of all ages. Jeremiah was so passionate and kind as a GM, and also as an escape room connoisseur. We’ll be back for the other room soon :)”

The disembodied voice of the Ghost Host is your private guide through the cadaverous dwelling—home to grinning ghosts and other spectral surprises. Glide past a rattling casket in the conservatory. Head off to Madame Leota's spirited séance room. Float by the Grand Ballroom and its waltzing apparitions. Take a spin through a cemetery where the spirited residents regale you with song. Beware of lurking hitchhikers—these phantom pranksters may try to follow you home!"

This is always a classic to ride during the holidays (Halloween, Christmas time) because they will transform this attraction into The Nightmare Before Christmas theme!”

“I loved this theme of hypnotization. Of all the mazes at Knott’s, this one is the best at telling you a complete story throughout the entire maze. The voice talks to you through the entire maze, which makes perfect sense for the hypnotization theme. There are also some really cool, freaky moments during this maze where they play with your mind. The Keeper leads you through a foreboding cathedral, encountering classic maze themes. Unleash 50 years of modern terror, reliving the eerie collections and diabolical characters of seasons past.

“This might be my favorite haunt of all time! It’s not at all cohesive, but that’s because it’s basically ten mini haunts! Every time I turned a corner, I had no idea what would come next. It never stoped surprisingly me, and my smile just got wider the further I went in. I kept thinking I was almost at the end, but the maze lasts like seven minutes! That’s crazy long for a theme park haunt!”

The Sisters Curse takes place in the 14th century in the small town of Warwick, a fishing port in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom.

“For two people, this room is tough. I read previous reviews saying Magic Cottage was easy in terms of puzzles but for two of us there was a lot to do and the perfect amount of time to do it. The setting and set design is phenomenal. Though the second room is less stellar, I think that’s how many escape rooms are: your main set piece is more thought out leaving the end feeling rushed. That’s really my only complaint is not being able to use more in the second room. All the props are genuine and handmade. You really feel the passion and creativity the owners brought to the table. Some rooms nowadays rely on dreaded AI for art or voiceovers - Magic Cottage is real, human engineering at its finest and it floors me when I find places like this. Definitely play here if you haven’t yet.”

Learn More about Irvine Escape Rooms

Anaheim is a true escape room destination. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Orange County, America’s most magical city has embraced these immersive experiences. In fact, greater Anaheim is home to nearly 20 different escape room venues. Time Machine at Not Another Escape Room offers a creative take on the popular science fiction theme. The Mad Rapper at Scenario Escape Room is a fun game with some fresh ideas that can be enjoyed by all ages. The 13th Basement at The Exit Game Anaheim is a thoughtful game that can be great for slightly more experienced players. With nearly 100 escape games in the area, the possibilities are basically endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.

How Do Escape Rooms Work?

Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
