2023 Morty's Finest: Top Escape Room Awards

With the year behind us, it’s time to take a moment to recognize some imaginative creators whose hard work inspires us and adds to the sprawling tapestry of experiences powering the vibrant immersive industry today.

As such we are thrilled to announce the recipients of the second annual Best of Morty awards.

In 2023

The Morty community logged over 300,000(!) experiences and 200k ratings across 79 countries. As a result, making it on this year's list was incredibly competitive.

Out of thousands of escape games and haunts around the world, we are highlighting a few hundred escape games and haunts which are particularly well regarded by the Morty community and deserving of this distinction. In total we are honoring 382 escape games across 200 venues, and 28 haunted attractions at 20 locations.

These experiences offer imaginative interactions, deep immersion into unique worlds, and great customer service.

How were winners determined? 🤔

The Best of Morty awards is our attempt to harken back to the early days of the Michelin Guide, and award standout attractions that one simply must visit when in the area.

Winning attractions are primarily identified via the Morty community score algorithm, with some adjustments to boost regional standouts.

While Morty’s community score algorithm takes into account the recency of rating, the user’s experience level, and several factors to minimize suspicious behavior, the Best of Morty awards algorithm additionally considers:

Recency: Ratings received in the award year are heavily weighted.

Quantity: The number of ratings is considered.

Regionality: Ratings are weighted regionally so that attractions in less dense markets have a slightly higher likelihood of being included.

This means it is slightly harder to win in competitive markets with a wealth of standouts (e.g. Southern California).

Availability: The venue must not be closed at time of award.

With the above factors incorporated, a threshold was applied so that the top 200 escape room venues would be recognized.

Some attractions which are widely considered to be fantastic were not included because Morty does not yet have a strong presence in their part of the world.

As Morty’s reach expands so will our awards!
